If I Knew John Hodgman Was Going To Be In Coraline, I Would Have Given A Shit About Coraline
Coraline looks really cool and art-directed. But since I'm much more of a documentary/comedy person than an animated scary movie person, I kind of filed Coraline away in the "Sure, I will be dragged to that on a lazy Sunday afternoon after a four-mimosa brunch if socially imperative" section of my mind. But now that I know John Hodgman is in it, fuck that plan. I will go see Coraline to hear his voice, because he's John Fucking Hodgman. In this Coraline promo video, John is asked what it was like to work with Teri Hatcher. For real.
WHEW. He's still the John Hodgman we know and expect a certain sense of humor from. Coraline: see it, love it, tell all your friends the best part was The Hodge as "Father." Done and done.

I know, right? I was reading Variety's review of it and got super excited when I saw he was in it. Not only that, but They Might Be Giants contribute music to it! Dakota Fanning may be involved, but WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!

Pros: John Hodgman, Henry Selleck (the man who was actually behind Nightmare Before Christmas), TMBG, it looks awesome, 3-D!
Cons: Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher.
Verdict: I'd like to see it in 3-D, not so interested otherwise

Seriously, the best part about this movie is that Tim Burton has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. Nothing against the man, but maybe finally people will give Henry Selleck the credit he is due.

If Tim Burton had anything to do with this project, Coraline would've asked santa for another family and then on Christmas morning she'd find a Christmas present that would lead to another world where everyone has Christmas present ribbons for eyes.

The book Coraline creeped me out when I was little. I think it was the fact that the other parents had buttons for eyes. But now that I know John Hodgman is in it, I kinda want to see it.
