Taco Bell Rips Off Wendy's Ripping Off The Lonely Island

thumbnail icon: Taco Bell Rips Off Wendy's Ripping Off The Lonely Island

Taco Bell has a new ad that is obviously a total rip-off of the Lonely Island. I'm on a new bacon cheesy potato burrito, I'm on a new bacon cheesy potato burrito, everybody look at me, I'm on a motherfuckin' new bacon cheesy potato burrito. Fair enough. Ranchero chicken soft taco in my pants. Besides, Taco Bell has been struggling to figure out a way to best remind customers that they continue to serve up garbage nightmare food ever since Beverly Hills Chihuahua rendered their spokesdog irrelevant. "Yo quiero BRAND IDENTITY."

Except, if you're going to just rip someone off for your advertising, at least rip them off first, guys. Wendy's ripped off the Lonely Island weeks ago*. YA BURNT**!

Think outside the bun THREE WEEKS AFTER THE BUN ALREADY THOUGHT OF IT. (Look out Don Draper! After I use my time machine to KILL HITLER, I am coming for your job!)

(Via AfroJacks.)

*Admittedly, this ad is a couple of weeks old. But it is still not as old as the Wendy's ad. And thus the math remains the same. As math has a tendency to do.
**More like YA MICROWAVED! Am I right? (It is Friday, and I did not sleep very much last night, so you shut up.)

I was going to post something clever about how no one pays in dimes, or how useless dimes are, or how this concept was stolen from MCI or whatever, but then I thought about the sort of smirking sense of satisfaction that the creators of this ad must have, and now I'm just angry.

I think what makes 99.9% of fake rap terrible while the Lonely Island is almost always amazing is that LI is relatively familiar with what they are laughing at. But something like this... I mean, "its all about the (insert here) baby", cars with hydraulics, little kids breakdancing, these are all from very different (and terrible in different ways) eras! Get with the program Taco Bell or I'm never buying another taco (ed. note: I am still never buying another taco)

Sometimes I feel like the only kid around who doesn't like "On a Boat" or a majority of the Lonely Island stuff. I mean, the videos are funny the first time around, but then they are accompanied by months and months of every douche in America thinking they are the fourth member of Lonely Island and that they too can be funny and relevant as long as they keep quoting the latest song ad nasuem until the next one rolls out.

So, is the fake rapping at "participating locations"? Or is it still just horrible food? Either way, :(

Taco Bell has just given up. Given up on appealing to people's tastebuds. Accepted the collective consciousness of "Taco Bell = Diarrhea." Accepted that all they have going for their food is that it is really cheap. That their big selling point should be that you can pay for their food in dimes. I think this is it you guys. This is the Taco Bell swan song.
