Stephen Colbert Announces "Operation Humble Kanye"

thumbnail icon: Stephen Colbert Announces "Operation Humble Kanye"

New Feud Alert: Stephen Colbert is once again calling the Colbert Nation to action. Enraged that his own Christmas album is only #16 on iTunes, while the arrogant Kanye West's album is at #1, Stephen announced "Operation Humble Kanye," asking fans to purchase "A Colbert Christmas" tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm, hoping to knock Kanye down a peg (and who doesn't want to do that?) To add fire to this new fake feud, which will surely end with a Kanye appearance on The Colbert Report, Stephen takes some cheap shots, calling Kanye a "sunglasses display mannequin" and less a voice of his generation than Crocs. And a whole bunch more fightin' words. It's hilarious.

Let's do it! Tomorrow at 5pm, let's go to iTunes and buy the Colbert Christmas album (link here on the right, it's $7.99), and show Kanye who is the voice of this decade, of this generation.

don't get me wrong, i love stephen colbert. but doesn't it seem like he uses his arrogant character to shamelessly plug anything that will make the "real" stephen colbert lots of money? it's almost as if he's free from scrutiny because the guy constantly asking us to buy his book/dvd/cd isn't the "real" stephen colbert. but in reality, he is.

j_son: If it makes you feel any better, proceeds from the DVD and iTunes sales of A Colbert Christmas go to a charity called Feeding America.

This would be funnier if Britney Spears wasn't the #1 album and likely to stay there for the week...

If Kanye West is not the "voice of this generation", then who is?

Ever seen some kids from the Southside of Chicago listening to We Don't Care? Ever heard the pride and conviction in their voices? In our voices?

Fuck arrogance. No one inspires young people today to elevate like Kanye West does. Call him an asshole, pretend like he never thinks about anyone else but himself. But Touch the Sky? Heard Em Say? I Wonder? I know what his art did for us. I know how his conviction and perseverance keeps us inspired and determined to hold true to our dreams and grow.

With that said, Stephen Colbert is awesome.

Did you honestly just talk about Kanye West as if he was some hero figure we should all inspire to be? Doesn't he talk about himself that way enough?

Kanye is about as much the voice of this generation as Justin Timberlake is. Unless you mean 'generation self-involved marketing gimmick," then yeah, he's got a shot at the crown. He has to take down Sean Combs and R. Kelly first. In 10 years Kanye will be thought of like Kid Rock is thought of today. As in, not much.

Who is this Bob Dylan? Why the New Christy Minstrels are just as good as him, and their voices are actually in tune!

(Kanye West is an abrasive person. He has a weird deficit of self-awareness for someone who thinks he's so introspective, but he makes classic fucking music. You're going to be hearing his shit for the rest of your life. Deal with it.)

With all the auto-tune he's barely the voice of his own album...someone needed to say this...Colbert is my hero.

I LOVE watching The Colbert Report. Having said that, I absolutely agree with j_son the "real" Colbert has put himself in a situation where he can do and say anything he wants and if there's any resentment towards him he just has to hide behind his character. With his latest marketing stunt he shamelessly and arrogantly disguising his demand for more money behind a fake feud with that fool kanye. I really really hope people don't go out and throw more money at Colbert.

Now, I LOVE watching TCR, but I completely agree with j_son, Colbert is taking advantage of using his "character" as something he can hide behind when he does or says things people don't like. This latest stunt is particularly underhanded: creating a fake feud designed to boost crap record sales. I just hate how he shamelessly plugs it. I REALLY hope no one gives in to this ridiculous marketing ploy

Apparently people forgot how to read. All profits from the album and DVD go to charity.

I don't think that's true. On last night's episode, he said a "portion" of the proceeds go to charity.

He is the voice of that demographic not a generation. Does there have to be a voice of a generation? I am glad he has inspired people but you are exaggerating and generalizing.

I agree. The only thing Kanye has inspired in my friends is the compulsion to wear sunglasses that look like blinds.
