Releasing This Week On Netflix: The Fucking Apocalypse

Uh, I'm noticing a theme this week in the long-ass list of Netflix New Releases: the Rapture and the end of the world and, especially, the Anti-Christ! Something tells me the fundamentalist Christian companies/ministries who finally released these old propaganda movies chose this date in history for a reason. Clearly some people out there think that what's happening in our country right now is the event-movie equivalent of the year 2000. What I'm trying to say here is: they think they can make some money off the other loons who also think Obama is the Anti-Christ. There's just no other explanation for these titles:

• The Mark Of The Beast (1998)

  With their provocative biblical interpretations, fundamentalist teachings and predictions of the arrival of the Antichrist and the second coming of Jesus, Jack Van Impe and his wife, Rexella, have captured the imaginations of people around the world. In this documentary, the televangelists expound on questions concerning the apocalypse and investigate signs that humanity has entered into the oft prophesized "last days."

• The Gospel Of The Anti-Christ: Exposed! (1997)

  Does the meteoric expansion of technology, multimedia and information, combined with the rise of the quasi-spiritual New Age movement, signal the end of the international dominance of the Christian faith? Conceived by the producers of the religious thriller Left Behind, this documentary explores the influence of the New Age phenomenon, its impact on the world and the possible threat it poses to humanity.

• Racing To The End Of Time (1997)

  Peter and Paul Lalonde, the brothers behind the Left Behind films, examine mankind's place in the new century in this sobering documentary. Our increasingly fast-paced world, they argue, may be hurtling toward the end times foretold in the Bible. Are new technology, trends and social changes outrunning humanity's ability to keep up with them?
