Three Weeks Later And Air France Flight 447 Still Resembles Oceanic Flight 815

thumbnail icon: Three Weeks Later And Air France Flight 447 Still Resembles Oceanic Flight 815

Earlier this month, when Air France flight 447 disappeared off the coast of Brazil, it was a horrific tragedy. Total nightmare fuel. The fact that an airplane carrying 228 people who were now undoubtedly dead bore very mild resemblance to the plot of a popular if sometimes off-the-rails supernatural television show with ever-declining ratings was beside the point. Everyone who likes Lost should have and mostly did keep their weird dark thoughts about how a genuine disaster with a real human cost vaguely resembles the plot elements of one of their favorite shows (minus season three, which stunk) to themselves.

Then, a couple of weeks later, some plane wreckage was found in the water but it turned out that the wreckage was NOT from Air France flight 447. That must have been terrible for the families of the missing passengers and crew who just want answers at this point to what happened to their loved ones. But again, for the miserable souls of Lost fans, there was that secret delight that shall not speak its name in the fact that this, too, seemed to mirror the fact that Charles Widmore bought that airplane and sank it to the bottom of the ocean complete with fake bodies, or real bodies but bought off of some kind of dead bodies black market, or something, to keep the island's secret safe. The parallel was definitely weird, but we smartly kept our mouths shut (kind of) and respected the fact that the ties between this real event and the television show Lost were tangential at best, and were useless or even detrimental in trying to ease the actual pain of people whose lives were affected.

And now, apparently, a Bolivian news program has claimed to have the first pictures of what happened aboard Air France flight 447, but they're actually just SCREENCAPS FROM LOST. This is getting stupid bananas. Video evidence after the jump.

I don't actually understand any of the words that she is saying, but I really hope it translates to "These are pictures from the TV show Lost of a fictional plane crash. Because we are not retarded."

And also :42 in this video:

Seriously ridiculous. On behalf of Lost fans everywhere, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone who may have been affected by the crash of Air France flight 447. We are the worst. Life imitating art imitatin[gunshot].

They have jails in Bolivia, right? They should use them! (Via ONTD.)

Glad to finally know that I was not the only one thinking this. Really Bolivia? Really?

On a more serious note, season three wasn't that bad.

Thanks for posting on the secret subconscious suspicions I've had for weeks. Clearly, this whole thing is the most elaborate between-seasons promo effort ("ARG") YET for LOST. Too bad people had to die for hype. And yeah, season 3 was great. If you wanna hate, try season 4... The freighter's coming, the freighter's coming!!!

That would also explain why "North Korea" is going to nuke Hawaii http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1193941/North-Korea-plan-missile-launch-Hawaii-Independence-Day.html. Does the LOST marketing team think we will forget what happened in seasons past? I feel like sending everyone DVD's would be easier than crashing a plane and annihilating an entire state but that's why I don't get paid the big bucks...

Also, other planes reported seeing a flash of light in the area of Flight 447 (http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/06/04/plane.crash/) which in no way made me think of any television show that I may or may not watch.

I feel bad for even reading this post.

The third season of LOST is like your first time masturbating; awkward and drawn out at first, amazement and surprise in the end.

I'm not sure if it's better or worse that my first thought when I heard about this was not about Lost, but The Langoliers miniseries instead.

Haha, my dad emailed my those pictures in some chain mail. Even though he's an avid watcher he didn't notice the very obvious Kate in handcuffs. Maybe the newscaster in Bolivia got the same one and they ran with it...

I've never commented, but I may be the only regular videogum reader living in Bolivia, so I felt I had to. I wish my first comment could be funnier, but I just have to beg you all, please don't equate Bolivia or Bolivians with the idiotas on Bolivian TV news. Consider the image the US has in the world, and how much worse it would be if people suddenly started forming opinions of us all based on youtube videos of Glen Beck and O'Reilly. Also, remember this Lost footage fiasco the next time you see a report on CNN about Bolivia and they cut to footage from a local news team. US coverage of Bolivia is often about as good as Bolivian coverage of Air France. I go into this kind of stuff more on my own blog, so "professor Bolivia over here"will shut up now.
