Some Fake Babies Are Creepier Than Others

If you have the internet on your computer, you probably know about "Reborns," the very expensive dolls that look exactly like real babies. There are ladies out there who treat them like real babies. Those ladies are the perfect complement to those men who treat those Real Dolls like their girlfriends. When I saw this celebration of the "lives" of some fake babies on Greg Johnson's blog just now, and saw that Greg Johnson had called it "10:52 of your life that you can never get back" I scoffed. But then I couldn't stop watching:

My disappointment that there were no photos of the fake baby with its face in the birthday cake was alleviated by my astonishment that they have pacifiers. Pacifiers! Don't they have cats where these ladies live?

I'm sorry, but this is somehow new to me. By "Reborns" are they implying these are supposed to replace dead babies? It's creepy as hell either way, but I'm really asking.

Parker

When I first heard about Reborns they were dolls made to look exactly like actual dead babies and for the grieving parents. Which makes it leagues creepier. But I'm sure there are people out there now that just want these things to have around..and if that's true can you imagine??? Your neighbor inviting you over to show them off, 'look I got my premie today!'

10.52? Try AN HOUR. Earlier this year Channel 4 showed a full-length documentary ("My Fake Baby") here in the UK on the women who buy (and often obsessively customise) those things. It was not the easiest of shows to watch...

I think they are adorable. Some people rather have a baby like this because there not ready to take care of the real ones. But you shouldn't judge people if they have one of these. You never know, you might end up buying one and loving it. (:
