Carbon Dioxide Strikes Back With Its Own Ad

This is from 2006, but it doesn't seem to have gotten much play: an actual ad that ran on TV in defense of our "friend" Carbon Dioxide. It's spit-take-inducingly funny, but I swear, I researched it, and it's not by The Onion. It's 100% real:

This is exactly like Brawndo from Idiocracy ("it has electrolytes!"). In fact, this commercial could easily be in Idiocracy -- particularly with the scary Big Brother-esque "Carbon Dioxide freed us from backbreaking labor..." part. According to Wikipedia, the Competitive Enterprise Institute is a conservative organization funded by oil and drug companies, among others. Competitive Enterprise Institute, if you're googling yourself and reading this, can you please do OxyContin next? My birthday is coming up. Thank you!

The best part is the commenters arguing over whether or not CO2 is bad:

"CO2 is a gas of life every bit as much as oxygen. FACT: Almost every plant on this planet grows faster and healthier with MORE CO2 .. not less. So people who want less CO2 call themselves 'green'? BS! The average PPM of CO2 on earth over 100's millions of years was FAR HIGHER than now. To plants, right now the climate is CO2 IMPOVERISHED. One more fact that enviro nitwits cannot reconcile is, if human CO2 causes warming, WHY has earth cooled since 1998 while CO2 has kept rising?"

He's right. Millions of years ago the CO2 levels were much higher. However, he left out the part about the sea level being considerably higher as well. If you think the real estate market in Florida is bad now...

If carbon dioxide were to disappear so would everything you love. Neon lights, trains, deer. Was anyone else reminded of that Zinc Oxide sketch from Kentucky Fried Movie?

Also this commercial is so propagandic that i wish there was some way to send it to jail.

That video has some people doing backbreaking labor. CO2 must be choosy about who it liberates...

EXCELLENT POST!

Al Franken lampooned this CO2 clip on his radio show back when the clip was new.

Wow. I cant believe this is even serious, right now. CO2 is necessary as is water. Too much water causes floods and death. Too much of a good thing can be bad. SCIENCE
