That Weird Levis Commercial With All The Secrets And Lies

This commercial has been stopping conversation during the ad breaks of The Daily Show and other late-night offerings for a few weeks now: a couple walks up stairs, removing clothing and revealing a series of confessions "I'm not really in a band", "I'm from Detroit", etc, and then it gets kind of surreal. I don't know, it's so American Apparelly:

I'm trying to figure out what keeps making people stop talking and watch this commercial when it comes on -- the porniness? The music (no idea)? The WTF ending? Button-fly jeans must be a hard sell, anyway.

The music is a track from Ballad of the Broken Seas by Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan. It cuts off right before the line "there's a crimson bird flying when I go down on you."

This whole series of Levi's commercials (there's one where two kids are disrobing and end up jumping off a pier) make me think they're safe sex PSAs before the big reveal that this is all somehow linked to sexy jeans.

And why is the family who owns the apartment they're breaking into black? I bet it's a comment on race-relations in our country. Like, they're breaking in and taking advantage and they think they're all entitled...or something.

Or maybe it's just the dumbest ad for jeans I've ever seen. Yeah, I'm going with that.

And I agree: the porniness. Good-looking people who are about to have sex = attention from everybody.

OK so this is fucking WEIRD. But im in the fucking family in the family picture in this commercial. My dad AD'd it and they asked us to just pose as them for it. We had to go to this creeper photographers apt. and take really ugly pictures and stuff.

but I think its just the stupidest ad ever. It was supposed to be like "ooh" he's a cop.

But anyway. This just made my fucking life. Thanks videogum!

I won't buy levi's ever again. I really don't care what anyone else thinks about the ads they are showing right in the middle of family programming..it shows once again that they will sacrifice anything for a buck! Even leading unwitting little pre-teens into thinking this is an exciting way to be.
