OMFG, Jenny Slate Is The Newest Cast Member On Saturday Night Life

thumbnail icon: OMFG, Jenny Slate Is The Newest Cast Member On Saturday Night Life

The story broke last night that Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad are the newest cast-members to be joining this season's cast of Saturday Night Live. I've been thinking about this post for a few days, ever since I found out but was sworn to secrecy, knowing that when the news finally, officially broke I would have to (and also WANT TO) write about it. In the end, I think the best way to go about it is just honesty: Jenny Slate is a really great friend of mine, and I could not be happier or prouder or more excited about this amazing news. So, you know, AHHHHHHHHH.

If it wasn't this it would have been something else. Jenny's star been had on the rise. Her work with performing and writing partner (and other wonderful friend) Gabe Liedman has always been top notch but keeps getting better. The weekly stand-up show she and Gabe host with Max Silvestri in Brooklyn, Big Terrific, was voted the Best of the Year by Time Out New York last year. Jenny's one woman how at the UCB, Jenny Slate: dead Millionaire was a huge success. She will play one of Jason Schwartzman's girlfriends on HBO's new show Bored to Death this fall. And she was the nefarious secretary, "Jenny," in 7th Floor West, the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Hills-parodying mini-series. But it isn't something else, it's Saturday Night Live, and that is incredible.

Jenny is one of the funniest and most talented people I know, and being on SNL has been a lifelong dream of hers. I feel like a mom cleaning Jenny's face off with a pocket-Kleenex covered in spit, telling her what a precious little wonder she is. But, you guys, great things can happen in this world! Let's paint, exercise, and all get on the shows we most want to be on! Jenny is going to be so famous! Nnnnn.....IT'S EXCITING!

Oh, and congratulations to Nasim Pedrad as well. Welcome to Hug Town: Population Yay!

The "Friendship" tag on Videogum covers two posts on Jon Gosselin, You Can Make It Up: I Didn't Fuck Screech, Kanye West, Angelina Jolie, the Video Pizza Party and now this. Way to claim back the Friendship tag for Hug Town, Jenny and Nasim.

Seriously though, congrats to them. That's fantastic news.

Although to be fair, the Video Pizza Party also deserves to be in Hug Town.

I guess Gabe L is looking for a new partner now that Jenny is otherwise occupied...i sense a "Gabe and Gabe" dynamic duo in the near future.

Is that her receiving the call that she got the gig while holding her lucky flaming haired nude lady picture? I know my copy brings me luck.

Gabe is genuinely excited about something? I hope his friends get hired by SNL every day because it's nice to read a post not written by a curmudgeony old man. But seriously, I've seen this lady all over teh interwebz (Gabe & Max: The Movie!) and she's hilarious.

YAY for funny ladies!

I'm not too familiar with this Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad, but if Gabe likes them they must be as great as a cake and ice cream party.

Congrats ladies!

NnnNxciting! I can honestly say I had one of those rare moments last night, when I saw the story on OMFG News or whatever it is, about the two new SNL cast members, and my eye caught the glamshot picture... and I had this uncanny feeling and went, "Is that Jenny?!" She is an amazingly talented comedian and I can't wait to watch her on teevee! Hip, hip, hooray!

This is a conflict of interest regarding SNL recaps. But I guess that was always Lindsey's deal anyway.

Dude, I just hope she's funny. SNL seriously needs some funny. Considering that you have a totally fucked up sense of humor, which I adore, I'm gonna trust your judgment and get excited for the upcoming season.

That's great! I wanted to see her at Big Terrific when I go to New York in November. Does anyone know if it will still be continuing? Wow, I didn't mean to sound a little self obsessed there, soooo added YAYS!!!

Yes. Jenny will continue to be on Big Terrific every other week or so, depending on her show schedule. Exciting, right???

Very exciting. Well I may have to drop you an email nearer the time if that's cool? Here in Scotland, we don't have trains, roads or comedians (Billy Connolly is not a comedian). It's quite strange how people on this site seem to be disappointed that Gabe is happy. I for one have just done a willy burp EVERYWHERE! Thanks Max.

For our threesome, are we meeting in Scotland? Because I feel like I'd have to wear wool or tweed there, and those are materials that just don't mix with orgies.

True, but think of kilts. Stylish and convenient for orgies. Also, I didn't mean what I said about the comedians, y'all should all come over for the Edinburgh Comedy Fringe, festival which last for a month, Flight of the Conchords were practically made by their appearance there! I enjoy fucking with American tourists during it, one of them once asked me where Ten N.A was. I was puzzled until they showed me it on the map. They meant Iona, the island. Pan kisses me.

Good for Gabe's friend and the other woman (congratulations, you pair of gorgeous champions), but i'm going to have to take out the bottle of haterade right now. I think snl should've hired a black comedian for Michelle Obama impressions. We are living in a new era, Lorne.
"my president is black, my lambo's blue/your snl casting, you should probably review." (-young jeezy agrees)

Unfortunately they will probably announce tomorrow that the season premier will be hosted by Seth McFarlane with musical guest Insane Clown Posse. Gabe's hate/love levels must be rebalanced, it is the way of the universe.

First off, not to be skin deep, but the cast of SNL just got a lot hotter. But on a more culturally significant note, I was a fan of Michaela and Abby in their brief moments to shine last season, so with these two newest additions it looks like the female cast could be as strong or stronger than any moment in SNL's history, both in terms of volume and talent.
