Wait, The Cleveland Show Is Literally Going To Be Black Family Guy?

thumbnail icon: Wait, The Cleveland Show Is Literally Going To Be Black Family Guy?

As we know, the beloved character of Cleveland Brown from Seth MacPooplane's* Family Guy is getting his own show. It's even been picked up for a second season months before the first season airs. Perfect. But technically this is a spin-off, right? And don't spin-offs usually incorporate the tone of the original, but are otherwise unique shows unto themselves? So All in the Family spun off Maude, which itself spun off Good Times. Happy Days spun off Mork and Mindy. The Cosby Show spun off A Different World. Oprah spun off Dr. Phil. And all the other examples that I could have copied and pasted from the Wikipedia page about TV spin-offs but won't because this isn't the University of Internet's Department of Lists of Film and TV Facts Studies.

The point being that all of those shows are vaguely based on some tangential aspect of the original programs, but are very different in style and casting and take on a life of their own. They're not literally the exact same show but drawn with a brown marker instead of a peach marker.

The Cleveland Show trailer, you guys:

Same living room. Same bar. They've even replaced the ridiculous talking dog with a ridiculous talking bear, just in case you were worried that there wouldn't be some stupid talking animal in this stupid looking show.

Congratulations, America. You've earned it.

*I like to think that Seth MacPooplane is less a mockery of his name and more an homage to his sense of humor.

So, a big, fat xerox of Seth MacFarlane's poo. Yup. Sounds totally right. I'm surprised that Gabe's so surprised.

I guess "Black Family Guy" was too obvious of a title.

Where's that video of Christopher Walken in Man of the Year? It's all any of us really need to say.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention that Beavis and Butthead spun off Daria, since sometimes the comments confuse me into thinking this is Dariagum.

Oh, and I won't be watching this. My loss, I know.

It didn't work. Whatever. This show sucks. Seth Mrfarlane sucks. The guy who voices Cleveland is white so look forward to more uncomfortable racist statements (I refuse to call them jokes). We lose.

Fake-but-not-fake racism is the new hack writer's not-joke, FistOAwe. It's about four years removed from being edgy and really has come all the way back around to just actually sounding racist. Stop being so uncomfortable with it white people. Join a hate rally like a real racist or go back to joke writing school, and also shut up.

That will be the point at which Seth MacFarlane finally just makes himself a recurring character.

o_o

Literally.

I thought Cleveland had a wife and that was about it and I don't remember her being "pretty". I'm very much disgusted.

Better start cracking out those Family Matters and House of Payne dvd boxsets Mr. MacFarlane!

I saw the pilot, and it SUCKS! Here's a few reasons:
1. Cleveland Jr. went from a 10-year old ADHD prodigy, to Peter Griffin's 14-year old black bastard son-- I thought QUAGMIRE had the affair with Loretta! Now it seems that Peter was his real father.
2. Cleveland was a mild wimp that his wife had to tap Quagmire to get some passion, and now suddenly he's a closet psycho who roughs up and threatens his would-be girlfriend's daughter's date..
3. Cleveland suddenly has a past life in Alabama, despite having a NEW ENGLAND accent, and flashbacks showing that he grew up in Quahog, Rhode Island with Peter since the 70's.
4. The show SUCKS! Think "American Dad."

Never saw it, I'm sure it sucks just like Seth's other 2342423432432 shows. This guy is pathetic and needs to sit down somewhere with these immature "i'm so politically incorrect it's funneh!" shows. It's pathetic.
Learn some real comedy, watch Titus you prick.

This show was horrible and I don't see it lasting. Family Guy is hilarious, American Dad is funny, The Cleveland Show is an abomination and it needs to be canceled. If they brought the ORIGINAL Cleveland Jr back, then I might watch it again, but until then I'm boycotting the show.
