Does This Mean We Have To F**king Like Shepard Smith Now?

Yesterday a visibly out of control Shepard Smith dropped what has to be the most intentional-sounding f-bomb in Fox News history. It seems he does not believe that America should torture:

The moments after the incident are the best, when he looks around almost drunkenly, blinks, wobbles his head, and says dramatically: "Ooops." And then he appears to be looking off-camera, presumably to see if he still has a job. This whole thing seems intentional to me, but maybe Shep is just THAT riled up about torture.

It's okay, it's Fox News, they're all bat-shit crazy over there.

Shepard Smith: the last sane man left at Fox News.

If you follow politics closely, you'll know that Shep has always been -- if not a moderate, at least a sane individual, willing to call out his network's insanity (see: his mocking of Glen Beck).

You'll also know he has a penchant for kinda-weird, off the cuff remarks (I'm referring to the "oops"). It was totally in his nature; I don't think he regretted the f-bomb at all, but was more making fun of how he would get in trouble for it.

Shep Smith is awesome.

Obama-style portrait of Shep, with the below slogan; "America does NOT FUCKING TORTURE"

And on the back, "...oops."

I would buy that T-shirt

Just tell me where to send my money! Just make sure the shirt is made out of that wonderful "old t-shirt" material.

Well, if I like someone it's not JUST BECAUSE they wouldn't torture someone for information. So no, I (still) don't like Shepard Smith.

On the surface, that's fair, but this is a 1 minute clip. And the truth is, AMERICA DOES NOT TORTURE. We tried people for that shit at Nuremberg. Torture is what the Khmer Rouge did, what Nazi Germany did, what the Vietnamese did. It's not what fucking America does. And while there's all the explanation in the world for why America doesn't torture, all you REALLY need is this: America =/= Torture. Period. They're opposites, in terms of the ideals they stand for.

While I'm pretty sure what you said has nothing to do with my original comment, I will say that I disagree with you on the notion that we don't need to know anything about torture to know that it's wrong. It's a disservice to our "ideals" as a nation to not be thoughtful about why torture is wrong and to engage in discourse about it. To just categorically say IT IS WRONG is disrespectful to those who have suffered from torture, because the issue is incredibly complex and morally ambiguous in some cases, and while I Absolutely Do Not Support Any Form Of Torture, it needs to be considered as an issue further than "We just don't do that." That is like saying, "America, why do you let blacks and women vote?" "Because DUHHHH." I'm going to shut up now, I'm not going to be the one to turn this ridiculous video into a LEGITIMATE DISCUSSION.

Sorry, I guess I just felt it was assumed everyone knows what torture is and does to a person. Anyhoo, discussion over. Back to Roger Ebert being officially the best now, forever.

We should sick Shep on the Obama administration for specifically blocking court rulings that addressed the human rights violations at Guantanamo from being applied at Bagram prison in Afghanistan, citing threats to national security. Because that's the new Gitmo (holding foreign nationals without habeas corpus or any official charge). Obama fail.
