Cormac McCarthy's The Road: Omar's Coming, Omar's Coming!

thumbnail icon: Cormac McCarthy's The Road: Omar's Coming, Omar's Coming!

There's a good article in the New York Times today about the movie adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. It turns out that it's very difficult to make it look realistic that the world is covered in the constantly falling ash from a dead sky, but a little less difficult in Pennsylvania. And Viggo Mortensen loves his breakout child actor co-star, Kodi Smit-McPhee. He loves working with him. He thinks of him as a little professional, and he treats him like a professional by kissing his head in the make up trailer while drinking secret wine. Just two professionals hugging and loving each other off camera. But the important news is that Michael K. Williams will have a role in the movie! He plays a traveling survivor of the unnamed Apocalyptic event who steals all of Mortensen and son's belongings and then is forced to give them back.

OMAR, SON!

The only way this intentionally miserable movie could get any better is if the part of The Boy was played by Jamie Hector. Viggo Mortensen would be like "I found this can of peaches in the rubble. You should eat." And Jamie Hector would be like "My name is my motherfuckin' name!" And the cannibals would be like "Found you!"
