Content Removed At The Request Of Idiots

I got an email last night from the Videogum Abuse Manager (there is no such thing as the Videogum Abuse Manager) about yesterday's Friday the 13th post because we received a Cease and Desist letter from Warner Bros concerning the still image of Jason hugging a girl so tightly.

Dear Abuse Manager,

Videogum.com is offering 1 image from Friday the 13th, consisting of the Jason Voorhees character. I have a good faith belief that such content is not authorized by Warner Bros., its agent, or the law and therefore infringes Warner Bros.' rights.

I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

Please confirm that you have taken the appropriate action at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and please advise should you have any questions or require any additional information.

Poor Warner Bros. Sure, they're getting free publicity for their movies, but if that free publicity means violating their rights with the use of a SINGLE FUCKING STILL IMAGE, then is it really free? Oh, it is? Yes. Yes it is. Warner Bros, more like Stupid Dinosaur Bros. I know that people were already complaining about corporate America's reluctance to understand how the internet actually works back when every URL started with the words "angelfire" or "geocities," but JESUS CHRIST. Anyway, I've taken the liberty of removing the "offending" image and replacing it with this:

I expect their studio will probably have shut down all North American production by early this afternoon. That's how disruptive this is going to be to their business. Man, it is so hard speaking truth to power when power is so stupid.

And just when I was getting excited and involved in the new epic Warner Bros. masterpiece Friday The 13th (#36 or something), the image was removed, and now I don't know if I care about this movie any more. Maybe I might download it illegally when I get around to. Now that my enthusiasm has dwindled, I will have to just go see Universal's remake of Death Race instead.

But doesn't the occasional Cease & Desist missive make you feel really popular?
