Roger Ebert Officially The Best Now, Forever

thumbnail icon: Roger Ebert Officially The Best Now, Forever

Roger Ebert is the best. Duh. BLOG US SOMETHING WE DON'T KNOW. But now his "best" status is going to be made official, because his childhood home is being declared a historic landmark. From the Sun Times:

Already a national institution, Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert will achieve landmark status today when his Downstate boyhood home receives a commemorative marker.

During a ceremony at 11 a.m., a bronze plaque will be placed in the sidewalk in front of his family's onetime residence at 410 E. Washington St. in Urbana. An Urbana native, Ebert lived there with his parents, the late Annabel and Walter Ebert, from 1942 to 1961

Yes. Congratulations, Mr. Ebert. You win.

I'm pretty sure the plaque is just going to read:

Roger Ebert's Childhood Home
1942-1961
Dude Was The Best
You Don't Even Know

Because in the future, people won't know anything.

This Roger Ebert love, so weird. I guess the guy has faced hardships and all, and doesn't like Bill O'Reilly, but the thing is that he's terrible at his job. Which is to review movies, and which he is terrible at. Er, at which he is terrible. Ebert frequently describes the plot wrong, or misunderstands the thing completely.

He's fine, whatever, but not the best. One thumb up. At best.

The problem is you guys just totally killed your point with putting that trailer at the end. It just reminded me that Roger Ebert isn't the best, because that title belongs to Mike Judge.

Yeah i donno about this. I pretty much see Ebert as being a guy who loves ever freaking movie that comes out regardless. From what I have seen recently, he has loved almost all of the god awful Nicholas Cage movies and all feature Cage's terrible ever changing hairstyles and never changing terrible plot lines. He likes EVERYTHING, which is sad to say, but critics are supposed to inform me whats good, and when all films are supposedly good from him, without my common sense whats stopping me from seeing Beverly Hills Chihuahua

To his credit, he also liked Roll Bounce, which is surprisingly good.

Only God can judge me and my love of teen competition movies.

Let us not forget that he wrote "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls". That alone deserves a plaque on his childhood home.

Ebert? "The Best?" Is the lunch you got from McDonalds "The Best" meal you ever ate in your life? GENE SISKEL was truly the best critic on that show; R.I.P. If you watched the show in it's later years (when Ebert filled Siskel's chair with HACKS including Harry Knowles a few times), Ebert would give a lot of Disney (and Miramax, Touchstone) films a undeserved 'thumbs up' ... Perhaps because Disney produced his show. Ebert's ai'ight; a dying breed that's far better than the 'average of morons' provided by 'metacritic', but "THE BEST"?? C'mon! also... IDIOCRACY is one of the most underseen, underrated comedies EVER

All you Ebert haters should go listen to his commentaries on classic films such as Citizen Kane, or attend his yearly film festival in Chicago before sniping at one of the most important critics of our era. Gene Siskel was simply a journalist covering movies; Ebert's passion has always been film.

"Which is to review movies, and which he is terrible at. Er, at which he is terrible."

Okay, you obviously don't have the first clue about sentence structure, and you're calling out one of the best film writers of all time? Nice.

Bottom line, Ebert writes passionately and beautifully about film, and has only gotten better since he lost his ability to speak. I don't always agree with him, but there's no way I can say anything critical about his writing. This is one instance where the phrase "the best" is an accurate description.

Not to mention that Ebert wins even more because he's getting Roeper & most recent Ebert sub Michael Phillips back on the air. Take that Lyons & Manckewecajsdhadfl; (or how ever the hell he spells his name.

Who is that man in the photo? He has a visible jaw. Ebert does not. Nice photoshopping.

Anyway, he is the best. So was Siskel

ps: I hate Roeper and the ass clowns who now host At the Movies. I also hate their "skip it", "see it" format. Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down forever!

Also, Ben Lyons is the worst thing to ever happen to film criticism, and a sad example of the horrors of nepotism. He routinely texts throughout films, gives positve reviews for other favors, and generally doesn't give a shit about movies. He's riding daddy's coattails for the starfucking lifestyle only.

Actualy Ben Lyons quotes:

"One of the greatest motion pictures of all time." - on I Am Legend
"It downloads new questions all the time over the Internet." - on SceneIt for XBox.
"A classic of epic and scope." - on Miracle at St. Anna
"I didn't get it." - on Synecdoche, NY

Dumber than a fucking rock, I tell you.

Roll Bounce is incredible. The kids tell Lil Bow Wow his old, raggedy skates look like they were used by Harriet Tubman! Underground ZINGroad!

Aaarrrgh!! You can read Ebert's book of reviews and it reads like a perfect book itself. When you can do read a book of and no feel empty aobut it, you've surpassed your medium. He is the best for creating something out of nothing, a movie critic is below being a blogger, no offense to this blog or anything, and Ebert has surpassed his occupation. I'm still in shock people could hate at him.
