Maybe Kate Winslet Is Just Fucking Tired

Everyone (like, blogs) is criticizing Kate Winslet for her "breathless" acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress in The Reader at Sunday's SAG awards. I don't think she seems "breathless" at all. I think she seems fucking exhausted:

As fun as it sounds to us, we don't have to dress up every night and go to these shows with a bunch of people in our industries that we don't necessarily adore and pretend to be shocked and overwhelmed when we win an award and remember to thank everyone when we really just want to be at home in our PJs watching P.S.: I Love You with Sam Mendes. I'm serious. Give Kate Winslet a break.

it's hard to feel sorry for somebody who makes millions of dollars for pretending to be somebody else. if she doesn't want to deal with the bullshit of being a celebrity, get a real job.

Lindsay, you're right. I usually just comment on Gabe's posts because something about wishing people to commit suicide just makes my day go faster - but you make a lot of valid points. Imagine having to tell your coworkers how amazing they are all the time, even when they suck.

And bitterface needs to chill. I don't think KW's complaining!

my point is, if i got paid millions of dollars to tell coworkers how amazing they are all the time, even when they suck, i think i could handle it. not to mention:

1. she's an actor. she can act happy. not that hard
2. you kind of have to be nice to coworkers at every job there is. otherwise people won't work with you and you can't do your job.

So no one who's richer than you is ever allowed to be tired? Interesting.

Each speech is different in tone from the others...
She may just be trying things out in expectation of the Big One...

Anyway...I can't really see what there is to dislike about this one...Breathless? Big deal...

i hate how if these people seem too grateful they are labeled ass holes... this is what she does for a living - of course she wants to be recognized for doing it well.

if people recognized these blogmeisters for doing their jobs well, i'm sure they'd breathlessly have the proof posted somewhere on their site for months and months afterward....

if you can't tell... i'm a kate winslet fan.

To be fair, she's got two kids as well. I'm sure even rich people get tired every now and then. And do we really have to log-in in order to rate posts now? Lame.

I'm really really struggling here, to find out where she did something "wrong"?
I thought it was a pretty touching speech, to be honest. Sometimes the awards-nerds really get on my nerves.
And yeah, like Becca, I may also be a huge Kate fan.

Kate is awesome and she can be tired and/or breathless if she chooses. She takes us all to another place in her roles, and that's something so many other just cannot do.

Kate is, obviously, an unbelievable actress and so lacking in Hollywood bullshit that people just want to find SOMETHING to criticize about her. I think she's fabulous and perfect. End.

I adore Kate Winslet with her unscripted and honest emotions. She portrayed Hanna Schmitz and April Wheeler with a stunning poignancy. A class act, I'm in her corner for every award she can get. You go, Girl--British Sophisticate, down-to-earth English Girl.
