Stephen Colbert Warns Of "The Hedgehog Armageddon"

thumbnail icon: Stephen Colbert Warns Of "The Hedgehog Armageddon"

In a hilarious segment last night, Stephen Colbert profiled the greatest threat to our heartland: herpes-spreading pet hedgehogs, and the little boy (a "Hedge-fiend") named Judd who didn't know the meaning of "great, now we don't have to buy one," and got the tiny menaces legalized in Lawrence, Kansas. Stephen actually got a doctor to say "There's no hedgehog armageddon." Hopefully, the other kids at Judd's school aren't allowed to watch The Colbert Report, because the bullies are not going to get it:

I liked Stephen's very subtle shout-out to Lawrence, Kansas legend William S. Burroughs in the beginning "A threat to our very existence BURROWS within our own borders." Nice.

"who didn't know the meaning of "great, now we don't have to buy one,"" might have been my favorite Colbert Report line in a LONG long time.

Hedgehogs are illegal in NYC too, and I own one. Just gotta have a vet who can keep that shit on the DL. She's not very good though :( "How do I open it?"

Man I love hedgehogs. I think I'm going to have to side with this kid & say they may be the cutest little animals ever.

They may be cute, but they are also smelly, disease-carrying, flea-ridden creatures. I wouldn't let my kid get one whether they were legal or not. I must be a big MEANIE.

I think I would put up with herpes if I could have a little pet hedgehog.
I'd name him Edmund and we'd have adventures.

The herpes soars on the little hedgehog was great! Good Job with catching the Burroughs reference. I actually found this site by googling Stephen Colbert, Hedgehogs, and William Burroughs to see if anyone else caught it. Your the only one I found. Nice!
