Is This The Rainbow Bridge? No, It's The Caboodle Ranch

A very kind man in Florida runs "Caboodle Ranch," an outdoor sanctuary for hundreds of stray cats. Unlike most people with hundreds of cats, he takes good care of them. The entire time I was watching this, though, I was laughing hysterically because this is basically exactly where Gabe thinks I live (please do not miss the part where the cats have their own police station and Wal Mart):

It doesn't help that the Caboodle Ranch is located just outside my hometown. (The next time I go home, I am visiting the Caboodle Ranch.)

I'm not really a cat person but I WANT TO GO TO THERE. The mini shopping carts at the Wal Mart were the best. Such attention to detail.

Given the implied pun in his ranch name, (Kitten) Caboodle Ranch, I'm upset he didn't name it Kitty Hall instead of City Hall.

I love how each time they keep begging the question "How does he pay for it?" they just keep telling you "Out of his own pocket!" what is he a millionaire? HOW DOES HE PAY FOR IT!?

Right. And no word on whether the guy gets the cats neutered to control the existing population on his ranch. My guess is no. He seems really nice and well-meaning, and I love me some kitties, but this will not end well.

All you need to do is go to his website caboodleranch.org to see that he does spay/neuter. It is a rule of the ranch before they can come there. He is part of the SOLUTION not the problem. Please get youir facts before you judge so harshly, this man is doing what he loves and helping abandoned cats have a second chance. Its as simple as that.

hard to imagine these "journalists" dreamed of working for a network called 'zootv.'
wonder what their reels look like.

I wish my parents had dropped me off at that ranch when I was young. I would have lived as one of the cats, slowly earning my way up to the rank of grand kitten caboodle. I would have owned that town.

This guy could easily make money for this place if he set up like four webcams and a donate button on some website somewhere. I almost want to move out there and do it for him.

Seriously, I would watching this webcam all day and then empty my wallet in order to keep it running.

Seriously, it would be totally possible to make money off of this. Corporate sponsor, website with donation button, invite interns/volunteers from local schools, charge for tours/admission. . .I hope he finds a way!

this story is really precious and sad and scary, all at the same time.

what's going to happen to those cats when that guy gets too old or too poor to make it happen? that's a LOT of money. seriously, where does he get his money? is he eating purina and doughnuts, too, and sleeping in the cat chapel at night, nestled under a pile of cats?

are those cats going to eat him?

doesn't anyone help him, because that seems like a LOT of work. i find managing to feed myself taxing, much less my husband and the puppy and our two cats.

stories like this, where some quirky person follows a dream that is bizarre and sweet and trying to make the world a better place, make me feel like humans deserve a few more years to try to work it out before the global apocalypse. it'll be hard to run the caboodle ranch when he's fighting off zombies or hiding from marauding cannibal tribes.

please, let's give this guy and his lovable, not-hurting-anyone-with-their-crackpot- schemes brethren a chance to turn this ship around! if the human race can create guys like this and the weird sweaty basement pole dancing dad guy, we can't be entirely worthless!

there is about a zero percent chance that this is legal. he will lose those cats soon if he has not already. it may seem nice a fun with all of his painted signs, but he is certainly not giving all of those (how could he) cats the care and attention they need. sad truth is that these cats will end up getting put into animal shelters (not bad by itself) and as the feral cats that they are they will have less chances at surviving the shelter to find a real home. at the very least all of this will happen when that old man dies. please people, don't back crazies being crazy just because it looks cute.

dude how much care and attention do you think cats need? Cause I've had cats. They need food and that's about it.

There is about a hundred percent chance you don't know what you're talking about:

"Caboodle Ranch has the seal of approval from the Tallahassee Humane Society and Tallahasee/Madison County Animal Control. Representatives from both have been to the Ranch and both have liked what they've found."

Yep.

Love how this reveals the fatalists in the VG readership: "This can't end well" etc.

Well, how do you think it would have been for these cats if the ranch wasn't there? Sometimes a good thing is just a good thing. The guy might be a little crazy, but this sure beats most of the other ways people get crazy. He's part of the solution - taking potshots is being part of the problem.

I love this guy. I saw this last week and donated right away. Dude lives in a trailer with all those cats. And yes, they're neutered and vaccinated and see the vet on a regular basis.

YOU ARE AN IDIOT. How can you judge this guy and you know NOTHING about him or the ranch? He has been doing this for over 5 years and it is a professionally run non profit organization! Bavcked by the Humane Society and local and non local Animal Shelters. The rason he is there is because people dump there cats, abuse them, abandon them. Its like you are saying every charity with animals is illegal. He has vets, he has volunteers, of course the cats get all the medical attention they need. AND all the ferals there still have to be spayed/neutered and have their shots yearly. Get a life and be kinder.
