No matter how one feels about Justin Timberlake, when you watch him host SNL, you can’t help but judge most celebrities who do the same job without having to memorize choreography and songs for nearly every sketch. JT basically makes most of his peers look like lazy, cue-card mumbling in-phoners, and last night was no different, though there were too many repeated sketches, like the Barry Gibb talk show. Justin was such a pro last night that I’m officially forgiving him for stealing Paul Rudd’s thunder when Rudd hosted last fall. Here are the five funniest moments.

5. The Monologue:

4. The part of Weekend Update that had the Manny Ramirez joke and the Gyllenhaal/Saarsgard jokes:

3. The Mom Translator:

2. The Dick In A Box Sequel, Motherlovers, starring Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson:

1. Cornelius Timberlake Comes To America:

Next week: the season finale with Will Ferrell. That one should probably be pretty okay, too.

Ugh. Britney jokes at this point Justin? Boo.

  2. The fact that Justin Timberlake can actually be funny kinda makes me hate him more.
    Bastard.

  3. Really no love for the Barry Gibb Talk Show? Maybe it was the fact that it hadn’t been on in a while, but I thought is was pretty damn funny. Also, the Spitzer/Patterson combo on update was really hilarious.

Can’t watch Motherlovers without feeling ill now that my friend told me what the loose pastrami sandwiches they are eating are supposed to symbolize.

  5. Timberlake was basically a cast member considering how much he was on this year (which got to be annoying), but damn, this episode. He was so good at life during it. He was basically painting, exercising, playing ping pong, playing the part of random keyboardist in Ciara’s band, and being awesome.

Also Barry Gibb? I’d love just because Fallon got Timberlake to break while keeping a straight face. Never dreamed I’d see that.

  6. I don’t even care that a lot of it was just revisited old sketches, my mediocre face was still cracking up.

  8. “Craate & Baareyhl” is my kind of humor. Hilarious.

And damn if “Mother Lover” isn’t one catchy tune. I triple dog dare you to get it out of your head.

  18. May 11th 2009: Day 1 of the Justin Timberlake on SNL Backlash.

    (I enjoyed the show.)

i wouldn’t go as far as saying that JT is talented but he is definitely a good comedian. i even think he’s better as a comic actor than as a musician.

  20. Justin is a terrible actor. It was bad enough that he played a tough guy in Alpha Dog: bitly.com/Hc5cJ1 lol
