You don’t have to be a Mad Men junkie to have noticed that this week’s SNL‘s funniest parts involved its talented host, Jon Hamm, who proved he can do comedy as well as brooding and mysterious drama. The show seems to have either blown its wad on the political stuff, or just taking a break from being funny with it this week. Probably because we’re used to seeing Jon so serious as Don Draper, the SNL people wrote some extra-silly, extra-immature sketches for him, including not one but two that used the time-tested comedy tradition of bathroom humor. After the jump, the five funniest SNL moments, which all, not surprisingly, involved Jon Hamm.
5. Jon’s Opening Monologue — Mad Men As A Dance Competition
4. Let’s Put The Finger In Butts:
3. Two A-Holes Visit Sterling Cooper:
2. Jon Hamm’s John Ham (The Ham You Eat On The Toilet):
1. Don Draper’s Guide To Picking Up Women:
Aside from being funny to non-MadMen viewers as well as fans, the part about the dancing man is a perfect send-up of Mad Men‘s sillier aspects.

What? How could you not have included Vincent Price’s Halloween Special? Kristen Wiig AND Jon Hamm together!
“Arrrrgh…I’m a pirate.”
The sex offender sketch was pretty good too. I thought the episode was quite good even with Amy squeezing out her kid and not being able to reprise Bronx Beat.
coldplay is the worst
Did anyone else notice how during the Two A-Holes sketch, the audience didn’t seem to care that the real life Peggy was making a guest appearance, but everybody clapped for Sterling? WHEN WILL WE BREAK THIS GLASS CEILING IN CELEBRITY CAMEOS?
I noticed. I think it’s because he had a Kramer-esque entrance, or maybe they weren’t sure it was the real Peggy.
yeah, but that horrible casey woman got applause presumably because people thought she *was* christina hendricks. i think elisabeth moss is great, so the fact that she wasn’t received really bummed me out.
also, that guy who did the pete cambell impression — genius!
“I’m just a woman – I’m not allowed to own a watch.”
“With good reason.”
This – and the rest of the episode – was SO AWESOME.
No Rasta-Man? That one had me in stitches.
Rasta man was hilarious. I think it’s funnier if you know more about rastafarianism, otherwise the joke may have gotten kind of old. so not quite a five percenter, but close.
Here’s a link to Ras Trent:

Ovaltine?
Hamm’s James Mason impression was so much fun. I wanted more of that.
the videogum videos aren’t working…
It works for me. What machine/browser are you on?
Extra Coldplay was a poor substitute for Bronx Beat, but this was a great episode save for Kenan Thompson who remains the worst.
windows, ie 6 – i just tried another browser (mozilla) and it works, but still no dice in ie
the end of the mad men sketch was perfection with the nod to the carousel pitch… and their gay sal was pretty funny…. their joan was ok too.
oh oh – and don draper’s guide to picking up women was funnyish.
I second the Halloween Special call! Liberace was great, and it had the best line of the shows.
“Guess what I am!”
“Oh, you must be some variety of homosexual.”
Donald Plesance and musical guest Fear. I’m not saying that was exactly a great period for the show but…. it wasn’t a micromanaged Target commercial either.
rasta man was really good, especially when he walked by the black people. that KILLED me.
the sex offender skit, as gabe would say, was so smart it should go to college. but again, it oversold the joke.
Ras-Trent and the sex offender sketch were magic.
Will Forte was just amazing all together actually.
Also, COME ON LINDSAY, the weekend update wasn’t bad. The robot was HI-LARIOUS! “Next week I supposed to tell black people election canceled.” That killed me. Also, the end where they all said they loved Amy was really nice!
wheres the will forre sex offender skit. it was the funniest thing on the show!
