Over six minutes of a pet hedgehog (which, despite being illegal in many states, are huge on the internet right now) floating upside down happily in a tub while his owner talks baby talk to him in a southern accent? Yes, please:

Well, maybe not all six minutes. It gets kind of mesmerizingly weird from minutes 2-6. The description contains a strong warning that you shouldn’t try this at home with your hedgehog, because this one, “Sming,” is an “excellent swimmer.” As the lady says to the hedgehog, “your call.”

I smell a double dog challenge involving hedgehogs or perhaps a spinoff- hedgehoggum.com. The bottom line is we all need a little bit more hedgehog in our lives.

  2. My favorite part is when the hedgehog swims toward the edge of the tub as if trying to climb out, and the owners just go “aww, look at you!” Or maybe when the lady keeps asking if he wants to get out, then says “You want out or you want back in the water? It’s your call” and then waits as if he’s going to answer.
    PS Hedgehogs are ADORABLE.

  3. I kind of got the feeling Sming was trying to pretend he was dead so the scary ladies would just leave his lifeless body alone. Also, hedgehogs are the adorablest (new word?)

  4. Sming kind of seems to be less enjoying himself and more paralyzed with fear. The poor little thing.

  5. End this animal’s misery!!!

Hedgehog: i cant scape! halp! halp! I want to live!! no, I want to die!

The poster of the video is a member of the Hedgehog Welfare Society and is familiar with their behaviors. Many African hedgehogs enjoy swimming and it is excellent (vet recommended) exercise for chubby and obese hedgehogs. They are not rodents and do not “freeze up” or go into a trance-like state when they are afraid. If one is afraid it will make a loud crying noise, which is heart-breaking to hear. Also, do not confuse these with the European variety, which is quite different.
