Perusing this gallery of preview clips (so far) from the new fall TV season, only two shows jumped out at me as watchable. One of them is a heartwarming family reality game show produced by Ashton Kutcher, and the other seems like a straight-up ripoff of Meet The Parents. What the hell is going on here?

With all the bad stuff happening in the world of reality TV, Opportunity Knocks, where wholesome families are surprised by a block-party game show that tests their knowledge of each other might be just what we need. I’m serious. And the challenges are actually interesting. (“You have 45 seconds to go in your sister’s room and find her diary.”):

Worst Week is a about a guy who tries to impress his girlfriend’s parents and gets into scrapes along the way. I know, but likable guy in diaper + good production values + the dad from Dead Poet’s Society = Maybe okay:

But that’s keeping in mind that Stylista is not my thing and I don’t have room in my life for another one-hour drama. Question: where the hell is the Mike Birbiglia show? That was the one I was actually looking forward to.

It’s shows like Opportunity Knocks that make me happy that I don’t have many friends and family. Wasn’t the host on Nickelodeon before? Movin’ on up!
