The problem is that the world loves Tina Fey and since she is ONE female who is funny and a successful actress and writer that means that ALL women must have the same opportunities as her, which unfortunately is untrue. I would like to think we live in a world where women and men of all races and sexes (Sorry Tom Cruise) have an opportunity to write jokes that we as an audience can laugh or scoff at. Except for Jay Leno, because he is the worst.
If you’ve seen the promos for The Wanda Sykes Show, it’s clear that women are quite capable of being painfully trite and unfunny.
She really had me until she said, “Letterman himself opened this up to a public discussion.” I think that credit really belongs to his BLACKMAILER, because that is what BLACKMAIL is.
Um, I think she makes good points. I also think that, culturally, it’s easier for a man to pursue comedy writing as a career than a woman. “Why don’t you just be a teacher??” —My Dad
