Wow, Walt Disney’s new nature movie Earth looks really good.
Because it’s all footage from the amazing BBC documentary Planet Earth. WTF? Is Dane Cook in charge of the Disney Nature division? It’s being released in 2009? Because obviously it takes a year to recut pre-existing footage and overdub a new Patrick Stewart soundtrack? It’s probably going to take so long because it’s actually a shot-for-shot remake. Vince Vaughn is so good as that polar bear.
A rare miss, Walt Disney.

Doesn’t it say BBC right in the beginning? Disney presents a BBC Worldwide production.
Yeah, but it’s still clearly being marketed as a new documentary. If they said “Disney proudly repackages a re-edited version of the BBC documentary Planet Earth and pretends it is something new” we wouldn’t be here. But they didn’t and we are.
Using Sigur Ros along with any video footage is cheating. They could add Sigur Ros to that porn film intro you just posted up and it would seem epic.
Can we also note that the title shot at the end is the EXACT planet earth thing minus the word planet? What’s Disney playing at?
I’ve been hearing about this since the day that Planet Earth came out. The BBC has been planning this for a long time and it seems to me that Disney simply picked up the distribution. The crew that shot Planet Earth shot this along side it. So, they obviously had this planned from the beginning.

The unfortunate use of Sigur Ros in the promo reminds me of the fortunate and pretty well-done use of Sigur Ros in these Milo & Otis videos someone put on YouTube. There’re four of them in all, and they’re all epix (which is kind of unavoidable with Sigur Ros). This is the best one, especially at 1:53: http://youtube.com/watch?v=UTqShTxTAw0&feature=related
It’s probably a lot like the Disney one, but with more blatant animal mistreatment.
Sigur Ros + watching paint dry = compelling entertainment.
