Welcome. This is not a music blog.

If you’ve been reading Stereogum since the beginning — January 2002, when it lived on LiveJournal (!) — you know that I have a passion for pop culture beyond indie rock. During its first few years, Stereogum featured all sorts of entertainment coverage, then eventually narrowed its focus exclusively to music. The site has expanded since then: we’ve launched successful live events and original music compilations. We even made t-shirts. But this is our biggest endeavor yet. A sister blog devoted to visual entertainment — TV, movies, Web shorts, games — has long been part of the ‘Gum plan. I registered Videogum.com a little over two years ago. Now, finally, we’ve got something to show you.

Blogging daily for you at Videogum will be Senior Editors Lindsay Robertson and Gabe Delahaye. I met Lindsay during the NYC Blog Explosion of the early aughts and have been a fan of her writing ever since. Her work has appeared on ComedyCentral.com, Janemag.com, and her personal blog Lindsayism.com. Gabe came onto my radar a few years ago with a piece of Sufjan Stevens erotica (he sent me a link, relax). Since then, I’ve commissioned from him a handful of hilarious features that ultimately never even ran on Stereogum (if anyone wants his Tori Amos fanfic, e-mail me). You may have read his work on 236.com and Gawker.com (“The Unethicist”), or saw his Internet commercial. Lindsay and Gabe host the celebrated Ritalin Reading Series in NYC, and I am thrilled the duo is bringing that winning dynamic (dynamic = arguing for our amusement) to the blog. They have been down in the basement drinking coffee for about the last four months, and should be all ready to go.

Videogum is intended as a filter for things worth watching in the same way Stereogum is a trusted voice telling you what’s worth a listen. We know all the formats, own all the devices, watch all the channels. Expect Lindsay and Gabe to cover everything from obscure films to viral videos to popular scripted cable drama The Hills (thank god the strike is over, right?). If you like music videos, you’ll continue to find them over on Stereogum (except sometimes). Subscribe to Videogum’s RSS feed, keep checking back, and you’ll see cool new features and functionality in the coming weeks. You can also send in tips at tips@videogum.com.

Thanks for tuning in.

why has this site apparently been running for weeks? it seems counter-intuitive to run a blog without telling anyone.

Wow, I do remember when Stereogum was on LJ! 2002?! Damn, I have been reading this blog for a long time.

  9. hahaha… nice!

  10. Idolator did the same thing when it started, with running the blog weeks before the official launch. Just gives something for people to read the first time they come instead of just staring at a welcome screen.

well with 2 seperate sites, i think that’s reason enough to put the headphones back on the stereogum logo.

    bring the headphones back!

Wow congratulations. This is great. Way to make me do even less actual work at work now.

  14. Stereogum a “a trusted voice telling you what’s worth a listen”? It is to laugh. I like you guys, but I trust you about as far as I can throw a closet full of advertisers.

    • Is that supposed to imply that the advertising influences the editorial? If anyone’s keeping score, it’s easy to find counter-examples to that argument all over stereogum. please don’t make accusations like that unless you actually know what you’re talking about.

  15. Are you going to allow subscriptions through email?

  16. I’m a “girl”
