Ha!

Look, the message is a good one and the cause is completely respectable. Besides, Mr. Wayne is very influential these days. So maybe a completely disingenuous plea with America to do something that is completely contrary to everything that made him famous (i.e. with everything that made him someone worth listening to in the first place) will work to encourage students to put down the face tattoo needle and pick up a book (or rather, to encourage legislators to put down the face tattoo needles and pick up the education reform pens? Who is this PSA even for?). But you would think that at the very least they might have used a take that didn’t literally sound like he was blindly sounding out a cue card that he didn’t understand. I am sure there were a million takes. “That was great, Dwayne, now could we try the line about this being the time for bold educational reform without the styrofoam cup full of codeine? What’s that? Sure, you can hold the styrofoam cup full of codeine behind your back.”

Bonus: Bobb’e J. Thompson would like you to stay in elementary school:

Man, this kid is cute (no pedo) and precocious and funny now, but I have a feeling he is going to turn into a real nightmare, and we will have no one to blame but ourselves, because we created him. Just kidding. We can blame Paul Scheer.

Anti-bonus: Asher Roth wants you to stay in college.

Yes, wayne is ridiculous. But — not trying to be an asshole — he actually did have a pretty good childhood — and he graduated high school and is currently enrolled at UT. So it might not be totally disingenuous for him to tell other kids to do the same thing? I don’t know. He is actively addicted to drinking cups of cough syrup. So this is basically exactly what a catch-22 is (thanx Bravo)

  2. I’m up in the studio me and my drank, me and my drank, me and my drank.

  3. HAHA Gabe, THANK YOU for making ME LAUGH even when THE news of THE SUMMER OF death is bringing ME DOWN. I SALUTE you good SIR.

  4. Oh, man. Did anyone else go and watch the PSA with Salt N Pepa? Yeesh. Relevant AND talented.

  5. Watching that Asher Roth clip makes me want to drop out of college.

  6. Someone needs to get Jon Gosselin to make one of these things.

  7. i would say something but its nearly impossible to say anything relevant after a picture of buffy jacking off…

  8. btw…did anyone else feel like we just got served?

  9. Wish I had seen this before I left the university.

  10. Bobb’e J does need to go back to school. He can’t even spell Bobby right.

  11. dear lil wayne:
wow. as a fellow new orleanian, i totally understand how difficult you had it. hollygrove is still a pretty rough neighborhood, and things got worse after the storm, but it’s looking up now. (cough.) and i appreciate the concern about access to education: the graduation rates down here are abysmal! i think there’s what, maybe one? maybe two public schools down here that aren’t either already on the list of failing schools or about to be on that list? and the massive budget shortfall that the city is about to experience isn’t going to do us any favors- you know how nola is, they’re gonna keep pumping money into the DA’s office and into the prison system and gut and cut everything else. so let me make a proposition to you, mr. i-got-out-of-my-shitty-neighborhood-and-found-success, maybe you should think about donating some of your money that you made on the backs of selling your stories about the ghetto so that maybe some other kids could have a similar opportunity. the local school in hollygrove is STILL FUCKING CLOSED from the storm, and, last i heard, the neighborhood couldn’t even get a decent after school program started because of lack of funding and security concerns. but you know what? i heard people in hollygove don’t even want to fucking see your face around the neighborhood, and i dont know what that’s about, but seriously man, either step the fuck up, or shut the fuck up.

    • I hope you CCed this comment to YouTube and all of the other sites Lil Wayne frequents in his never-ending quest to reply to every single one.

      • is that his thing? arguing on youtube about his cred? because if there is one way to prove that you are, in fact, gangsta, it is replying to haters on youtube. that and robotripping.

  12. He is sooooooo high right there.

i hadn’t even hit play and i started laughing because of how absolutely blazed out he is. like myself. wake and bakes are fun

  15. Is it just me or is Lil Wayne’s neck really disproportionate to his head?

  16. mmm…styrofoam cup full of codeine…

ugh…i hate to even go there, but I do think it should be pointed out that Lil Wayne was an excellent student before he left school to pursue music full time. So while the message that education is important delivered by a drop out is disingenuous, I think it can safely be assumed he can understand the words on the cue card. Also, as horrible as the music he makes is, I do like that Asher Roth a) doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously, and b) is willing to wear a UCSB shirt and do a PSA and not try to be a faux gangsta like so many other horrible white rappers. Love what you do, Gabe…sorry to hate and/or be a contrarian.

  18. I didn’t mind Lil Wayne. I’m sure he does care about education and he seems like he would reach a younger audience that some one like Sean Penn (picked random actor) wouldn’t. Asher Roth on the other hand doesn’t work. You can’t write a song saying that college is all about the party and then be like oh yeah books too!

  19. It could have been worse, Lil Wayne could have been playing his guitar in the video.

  20. “Solange Knowles Gets Sc…oh, her? She’s Beyonce’s sister or something.”

  21. “No pedo.”

    Strong to quite strong.

The More You Know *ding* *ding* *dong* *diiiiiiiiiiiiing*

  23. Actually, I believe he was a straight-A student before he went into music! So, whatever I think of his rapping (it’s okay? I don’t know.), I do know he’s a hard working guy now, and that was when he was still in school.

So he and his message are okay with me!

  24. Whenever I imagine Bobb’e J. as an adult, I think of Tracy Morgan.

  25. I would not have expected Weezy to attempt to rectify the damage Yeezy did to the youth with his “books aint cool I’d never get a book’s autograph” sentiment.

  26. The weezy take might have been better if they used auto tune.
