The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus trailer, you guys:
Um…what?
Don’t get me wrong…this looks like it could be great, if I had any idea what this was. Terry Gilliam has made so many good movies, and this has so many great actors in it (and it also has Colin Farrell and Jude Law in it). Plus it was Heath Ledger’s final film, so, you know, morbid curiosity alone. And I recognize that with particularly ambitious and adventurous and bizarre projects it might be hard to summarize everything within the simple and tidy constraints of your ordinary movie trailer, but COME ON. Even just the mostly straight-forward voice over narration is a total mind-fuuuuuuuuck.
A thousand years ago, Dr. Parnassus made a deal with the devil to gain immortality. But this came with a price. Now, a mysterious outsider will take the traveling show beyond their imaginations.
I thought I was following, but then I totally wasn’t following. What traveling show? Beyond whose imaginations? Forget it, Jake, it’s the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus Town.

seems clear as day to me.
why is there a checkerboard in this movie and every movie about psychedelics… although I do find the contrast of b&w to make sense, visually, to create a contrast emotionally… like everybody else… especially in film, yunno?
I’m a little confused. Is this the sequel or the prequel to Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium?
I believe it’s a midquel.
I’m pretty sure it’s the re-imagining.
DAMMIT. I’ve once again succumbed to ‘same-tired, easy joke’ syndrome.
I must make sure to read all the comments before I decide I’ve got a zinger.
SO dumb.
It’s good to see that Jack Sparrow is back in business! No really, “Nothing’s permanent, not even death” could have been sputtered straight from the rum-soaked jowls of the nefarious Captain.
I’m starting to think that the “HURGHT JOHNNY DEPP PLAYS CAPTAIN SPARROW IN ERRYTHING” camp may just be crazy.
I don’t think he plays it in everything! Much less anything but Pirates of the Caribbean. I just thought the delivery of that specific line sounded particularly synonymous with the quirks he employed as Jack Sparrow.
I think it is really more of a “we are acknowledging Heath Ledger’s passing” type of thing, but keep the pirates dream alive!
It is a little weird. Perhaps Gabe should email Verne Troyer for clarification. He has Verne’s contact information, yes?
Yeah, where is the Verne Troyer tag? Or mention for that matter?
And I’m kind of glad the release date of October 16th is only in the UK. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself that weekend! Wild Things! The Road! The inclusion of this would probably just throw me into a glorious cinematic convulsion.
Was that Tom Waits!?!
i was wondering the same thing. that, basically, is the only thing i find intriguing about that trailer. i think “tideland” made me permanently get of the terry gilliam bandwagon.
Whuuut, Tideland was brilliant!
I was horribly disappointed in “The Brothers Grimm” myself. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still adore Terry Gilliam.
Indeed it was… as the devil no less
Having trouble following movie trailers?
There’s an app for that.
It’s good to see that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have an open relationship.
Am I allowed to say that I love you?
I love you, too
It’s like “Pon De Floor” without all the dry humping.
I have yet to see a Colin Farrell performance I enjoy. Here’s hoping.
Have you seen In Bruges?
Nope.
You should.
Agreed – in a couple short hours, CF is able to save himself from being tagged “the worst actor of a generation.”
I’ll see it, but only for Verne Troyer.
a prerequisite for any mind f*ck movie is midgets right?
Have you seen In Bruges?
In Bruges is really, really, really good and endlessly watchable for the performances alone.
midgets and models and magic, oh my!
I’ll see it, but I’ll be as high a freaking kite.
Better.

Is this a sequel to my comment?
No. It is a “reimagining” of it.
Acceptable.
I would up-vote (that’s what we call it, right?) your comment if I had an account. The Gabe is keeping me down.
Why thank you sir. Your piety is unparalleled. As a show of good faith I have upvoted your comment. I also upvoted mine for you so don’t worry.
This has nothing to do with magorium.
i dont see how this could possibly be anything other than the greatest film of this year. y’know, if greatest meant “most mind-rapey”.
Have you seen In Bruges?
yes
Have you seen In Bruges?
Aw, first post and already everything’s ruined.

Is it me oor does the CGI look terrible?
in the movie our your avatar?
Rumpelstiltskin on acid. And I’m more than ok with that.
I could of used a couple more effusive adjectives at the end there, but what are you gonna do.
I saw Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium in Bruges, if that helps anyone.
This looked like it should have been a book first
Have you seen In Bruges?
Looks pretty good. Love Terry Gilliam’s work. But I can already predict that a bunch or a gaggle of teeny bitch boppers will go see this just to see one of the following:
1. Johhny Depp
2. Heath Ledger.

If there was a male version of “The View” Tom Waits would HAVE to be on it…of course he wouldn’t…which is why we love him…
First!
po-tay-toes, po-tah-toes, brilliant, overly pedantic, weird for the sake of weird, and bad southern accents. to each their own.
i love jude law, but he looks Really out of place here. why is he so BLONDE?
So: The Fantabulous Contraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel?
This has nothing to do with Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. It’s not a reimagining or a sequel or anything in between. The reason Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Collin Ferrell are in it is because Heath Ledger died half way through the film and they rewrote the script to accommodate Heath’s character changing appearance. Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Collin Ferrell all play the same part in the movie.
