“OPTIMUUUUUUUS!”
–Shia LaBeouf

“BUMBLEBEEEEEEEEEEE!”
–Shia LaBeouf

Oh this movie. With the dancing robots and the over-emoting and the Michael Bay M&Ms and the this song. Are we really doing this? We are? OK.

Don’t get me wrong, I “get it.” I also used to be a little boy who enjoyed playing with toys and having a rat tail. The powerful draw of nostalgia is not foreign to me. But let’s please stop with the games. If we’re going to watch an action movie about microwaves that turn into monsters and have an over-earnest 80s stadium anthem version of the cheesy cartoon theme song about robots that wear disguises, let’s at least have the decency and the self-honesty to put on our diapers. Because we are babies and we don’t ever want to grow up. (Via FilmDrunk.)

According to the research my partner Thompson and I have been conducting over the past 24 hours, it appears that our universe crossed with some sort of other-dimensional videogum. A BIZARRO videogum, if you will, where everything is exactly the same only the opposite. It seems the frequency of Constantinople’s comments caused a fracture in the space-time construct which then allowed Bizarro Constantinople (istanbul) to come through the split, perhaps because his frequent over posting on bizarro videogum, crossed with our own Constantinople’s. Perhaps, then, Constantinople, you too crossed over into the BIzarro Videogum, aware or not.

It could be possible that there are millions of different worlds out there, constantly intersecting each other at the interwebs–a plane, it seems, where truly anything seems possible. I only shudder to think what strange discoveries await us, both the truly awe-inspiring and the deeply, frightening. You all can sleep well at night knowing Thompson and I will continue diligently to discover what these Other-Worlds mean and what the consequence of this space-time fracture may ultimately be.

I am unhappy that this Videogum is not considered ‘Bizarro Videogum’.

          • I’m pretty sure everyone got your stupid They Might Be Giants joke. It isn’t exactly the Da Vinci code of yuks, dummy.

        • Why does Istanbul get the ax, and yet the American Patriot still walks [on the internetz] around?

Even though he actually makes sense down there, this time.

Unless? CONFIRMED: Gabe is An American Patriot.

      • I don’t get it. Did your words transform? I hope not because we’d need a bigger :( . Also, I like your chances of making best of the week.

  6. Euse  |   Posted on Jun 10th, 2009

Hmmm…don’t get me wrong, the song is lame. But this post and the post about the over-emoting make me think that Gabe hasn’t seen the cartoon Transformer’s movie from 1986 in awhile. Because I think that’s what’s being referenced here. Poorly.

  7. MIchael Bay in M&M Form  |   Posted on Jun 10th, 2009

So I guess that means Survivor will be doing the theme for Transmorphers 2?

  8. MIchael Bay in M&M Form  |   Posted on Jun 10th, 2009

Also how are they not having someone do “You Got the Touch”?

  9. MIchael Bay in M&M Form  |   Posted on Jun 10th, 2009

Oh for fucks sake. I spoke too soon. They DID redo “You Got the Touch” > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW6p3xZSmMg

  10. Lame. Ratt’s version of the Transmorphers theme song is much, much better than this.

  12. More reminiscing about the original, please. Let’s just pretend this never happened.

If there’s one song they need to port over, it’s ‘Dare.’ If not for that song, I never would have taped my boombox to the back of my bike.

“Why settle for a peek when you can see everything from Lookout Mountain?”

  13. Bizarro Gabe thinks things are The Best and loves Heidi and Spencer’s harmless hijinx. He used MS Paint to make his avatar of Heath Ledger as a bald black weatherman. He watches Butterfly Effect in the nude every Saturday night.

  14. In reference to the super long exchange above, this is getting kind of ridiculous. I mean, having one Da Cake Eatur running around is perfectly fine, but when did Videogum get so infested with trolls? It’s getting old, guyz/guy(?).

  15. while it totes get your sentiments re: nostalgia, throwbacks, michael bay, emotionally complex robots and shia lebeouf. this song kinda rule, i mean at least its completely in keeping with cheap tricks cheap trickness: the synth part is basically the synth part from ‘surrender’! i CAN do without the guitar solo…and the most poetically complex lyrics of all time, but you know, not bad. more than meets the eye.

  16. I would pay good money to see this movie, if only they had included Dirk Diggler’s version of “You Got the Touch”.

  17. Please. Please. Please. Please find and post a picture of yourself with a rat tail.

    BWE would do it!

  18. So, like, I think the guys who did the original Transformers theme were also adults. At least I don’t remember it being sung by a children’s choir.

I assume that Cheap Trick were paid for this, and it’s not like “Cheap Trick, you mean the guys who did that Transformers song?” is going to replace “Cheap Trick? You mean the guys who did I Want You To Want Me?” any time soon.

It’s that Stan Bush cat you should be sorry for. He never gets recognized except by stupendous nerds who can’t let go of their childhood. And even most of them couldn’t point him out on the street.

  19. I could understand most of our history’s greatest atrocities. The Crusades, The Spanish Inquisition, The Holocaust, Hiroshima, 9/11, etc. Not that I sympathize with the motivations, I could understand why the people who committed such atrocities truly believed in their hearts why what they did was right. But the one thing I can never understand, after much soul searching, is why people liked Michael Bay’s Transformers. I will never understand this.

    • Is there something wrong with you Billy? Bringing up completely irrelevant historical events to justify your opinion that Transformers was a bad movie? Millions of lives lost is not equal to a poorly constructed storyline, you silly, silly boy. Let me put it in simple terms then for you:

People like it because it was a summer blockbuster which had very good special effects and was a lot of fun, even if it was dumb.

  20. I would just like to personally thank Micheal Bay for sufficiently raping my childhood.

  21. Nice story you got here. I’d like to read something more concerning this theme.

  22. woah, double post man. that’s not cool.
it’s one thing to troll me once per post, but twice? twice crosses some sort of arbitrary line i just drew in the internet sand with my internet stick.
    twice? that’s cold , son.
