- Sad news, everybody — after struggling with ratings throughout its second season, HBO has canceled the beloved Enlightened. -Vulture
- Here is some news about Jon Hamm’s private part to cheer you up a little. -Dlisted
- And here is a sweet little animated Calvin & Hobbes cartoon. Are you cheered? -Slate
- Lynne Ramsay‘s, director of We Need to Talk About Kevin, didn’t show up for work on the set of what was to be her new film Jane Got A Gun and was immediately replaced. There’s a little bit of dirt here, but not NEARLY all the dirt that I want. -/Film
- Did you ever wonder “what if Disney’s ‘Paperman’ ended in a three-way?” Yes? THE POLICE ARE HERE 2 TAKE YOU 2 JAIL. -FilmDrunk
- And, finally, it is Mr. Rogers birthday. He would have been 84. In order to celebrate, let’s all watch him defend PBS funding in senate. It is really wonderful. -Hypervocal

When God takes away an Enlightened, he gives us a Jon Hamm’s penis.
Ha, Lynne. We need to talk about you not showing up for work is more like it. Get it together.
I would watch that Mr. Rogers testimony all day every day and pretend that it worked and that we never had to defend why public TV and public radio are good again.
Enlightened was my favorite. BUT they did tie it up kind of nicely.
This is the general consensus, but I disagree. I want more…

Kickstarter is basically our generation’s http://www.onlinepetition.com, at this point.
I guess kickstarter could work. I was just going to hack into HBO’s email and blackmail them.
Well yeah I mean but at least!?
I’m so sad about Enlightened
I wanted to see a Dougie episode
Animated Calvin and Hobbes makes me anxious. It was very respectfully and artfully done, but It feels like the first crack in a dam. I disagree with the general sentiment that remakes and re-imaginings don’t hurt the original. Our memories are tangled and associative, so new information can change and move the old. If voices are ever put to these characters, it would be hard to ever get them out of our heads. Someone on Slate remarked that peanuts made the transition well, and I agree. Charlie Brown Christmas is pretty amazing. but I think it’s a lucky exception that hewed amazing close to the spirit of the original. Animated versions of brilliant still work end up giving the impression that the still work is just a first draft, and can cause them to be overlooked. Again, some work makes the jump, but Bill Watterson is such an incredible artist, and the originals so expressive, and so full of a distinct language of motion already, that to
Oof, sorry. I’ll go eat my lunch and settle myself.
I once read that Bill Watterson used a stick he found in his backyard to draw parts of Calvin & Hobbes, including Calvin’s hair if I remember correctly. I am not sure if that is 100% accurate, but it is 100% awesome.
We should start printing and selling stickers of Calvin peeing on the idea of doing anything new with Calvin & Hobbes.
Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin peeing on Calvin …
I kind of love it because it was done so respectfully. Also, there is no way Watterson would allow a real animated Calvin and Hobbes. I’m actually wondering how long before this one is taken down for infringement.
Calvin peeing is the real abomination to C&H’s legacy. Fuck the guy that drew that one.
At least it’s slightly more in-character than this garbage:

That looks more like a Calvin-Peanuts nightmare.
Watterson himself even wrote an amazing article however long ago expressing wishes against C&H in other media because that’s not how he wishes people to experience it. He does not want people to decide what Calvin & Hobbes sounds like and a slew of other stuff that I can’t remember because it was very long ago when I read that article, but the message is clear: DON’T TOUCH IT, COMPANIES. THERE’S NOTHING HERE FOR YOU TO MONETIZE! SHOO!
Lynne Ramsay’s Day Off
Is there anybody who doesn’t think that Mr. Rogers was the absolute greatest person who ever lived?
Fox News apparently said that he led to a culture of entitlement among the youth, but that’s just Fox News.
Are these guys ever wrong?
My friend’s sister was a little slow in preschool and her mom blamed Mr. Rogers for it, saying he spoke so slowly. It is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
Sometimes I go back and watch youtube clips of Mr. Rogers when I’m having a bad day.
Mr. Rogers was perfect, and made lives better. Did you know his Mom made all of those sweaters for him?
My Grandma looked a lot like Mr. Rogers down to and especially the cardigans and haircut. She made me a bunch of amazing dress shirts and I wear them and love them all the time.
I never watched Mr. Roger’s as a kid because I thought it was weird he changed his jacket and shoes all the time. Then last year it totally made sense as I was home changing out of my work pants to my evening no pants, and now I’ve made my peace with the whole thing.
Happy Mr. Rogers birthday Koko! I know he was your favorite.
