Oh, boy. Another Girls episode, another week of wanting to throw my computer in the garbage. I don’t even want to say anything about it. Do I even have to? Should we even be considering it a comedy?! WAS IT RAPE OR RAPE-RAPE? Generally I do like Girls and I wish I could watch it in a vacuum, but it’s hard to keep my feelings up about a thing I have to read (ok — see in my reader and scroll past) 500 awful think pieces about every week, and a thing so touted (on the Internet) as realistic that consistently uses weird unrealistic sitcom tropes. Is it real because Marnie got boned by her ex after she sang the Kanye song in front of his employees? Man oh man that scene! You can be my “white Kate Moss” 2night netime, Marnie. Ugh. I don’t know. Did you like it? What did you think of the episode? I will say that it is something Lena Dunham should be proud of that she included Adam going #4 (that’s what it’s called, yes?) on his girlfriend and it wasn’t the most talked-about thing in the episode, because she has created an environment in which showing someone going #4 (yes?) isn’t especially out of the ordinary. I do mean that. Anyway, NEXT! Bob’s Burgers was great, as it is every single week. Billy Eichner, everybody! “I TELL EVERYONE ABOUT TOPSY.” Hahah. Ahh. Very good. Because it is the perfect child who doesn’t get any attention, we will now be moving on from Bob’s Burgers. Parks and Recreation was also great. Jenny Slate and Jason Schwartzman, everybody! Though I loved it as a human being, as a respected TV journalist with credentials upon request I thought the Aubrey Plaza “moment” didn’t make a whole lot of sense. It was a bit too sweet and a bit too sudden. But you can’t complain about everything for your whole life, so, Jenny Slate was great! BRING HER BACK! BRING HER BACK! FOR MORE EPS! FOR MORE EPS! Joe Mande was also great. Hahah. Let me just write up a quick list of everything I thought was great, thx. I did not see the failed pilot of The Farm, unfortunately, but I heard it was not so good. Did you watch it? What did you think? Are you still watching Community? I didn’t see that either. To be honest, last night I saw Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich do a DJ set at one fucking AM due to some obligation I felt to the Kelly that existed 10 years ago, so I wasn’t around to watch our shows. I am very sorry, both to you and myself, but sometimes these things happen. WHAT DID YOU THINK, THOUGH?!

Okay monsters, I’ll admit it, I’m giving up on Community. My husband and I got through about 10 minutes and stopped watching.
Jean Ralphio was hilarious on Parks and Rec. Or should I say he’s the beeessssssttt.
It’s probably reasonable to give up on Community at this point, although I watched the full episode and it was surprisingly decent for a Chang heavy episode post-Season 1. (decent though, not good)
I will probably continue to watch Community out of a sense of obligation and a genuine love for the cast (except for Chevy.) Plus, it’s still early days yet. I’m willing to give the new writers time.
I will continue to trudge through the season, like summer estherson, as there is this sense of obligation to show NBC that you have to give things time to develop. Though I will say that Troy is still the best!
If you think Amber`s story is flabbergasting,, five weeks ago my aunt’s step son basically got $4939 grafting fifteen hours a week an their house and the’re friend’s sister-in-law`s neighbour did this for three months and made over $4939 part-time at their labtop. applie the information on this web-site,…… http://www.miniurl.com/s/7qt
I laughed so hard at a bit of dialogue on Bob’s Burgers that I wrote it down (because I don’t have DVR and thus no way of recording it) with the intention of sharing it here. So here it is!
Louise: You’re such a squealer. What’s your favorite movie? SQUEAL Magnolias?
Jeremy: Warhorse.
The people demand season two on Netflix!
also, the people demand sound on the last episode of season 1 (does anyone else have this problem?).
RuPaul’s drag race side note…wigs UNDER wigs? The best.
All season I’ve been like “Yawwwn, Roxxxy” but that shit was brill-i-ant.
I’d even been keeping my husband updated on it and had told him after the last episode, “Yeah they’re doing a great job this season, nobody’s even taken off their wig or shoes during their lip-sync” and then this happened and at first I was like “Oh no” but then I was like “OH YES!!!!!”
It’s wigs all the way down! While I will admit Roxxy turned it out, I still find her mean girl attitude tiresome. Also, Coco should not have won for her repeat of Shangela’s comedy act. Blah.
To be honest, last night I saw Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich do a DJ set at one fucking AM due to some obligation I felt to the Kelly that existed 10 years ago, so I wasn’t around to watch our shows.
Kelly looks at her watch and can’t believe it’s 12:45 a.m. She’s not going to get a chance to watch the Thursday line-up and will be forced to lead with Girls again. Ugh, will she even understand half the gifs tomorrow?
As she stifles a yawn, Kelly looks behind her and there, in the back, next to bar, a girl that looks like our hero a decade removed mouths the words “Thank You” and seemingly dematerializes into the ether.
Kelly realized the unspoken obligation has been fulfilled. The timeline has been restored. The paradox repaired and the 12 dollar vodka sodas worth it.
I understand Kelly’s pain. After about 150 concerts in the last three years, I’m finally reaching the conclusion that I don’t need to see EVERY band I like EVERY time they come through town (and it’s a big town, so they come through a lot). Though even I probably wouldn’t go see artists I like if all they were doing was playing records of other peoples’ music.
DJing is flimsy. At worst (and most of the time) it is a glorified version of pressing play/pause at opportune times. But its not fair to dismiss it as being that entirely. When done by the right people (such as Flying Lotus or Thom Yorke) it can actually be a really interesting type of performance that makes you look at the music in a different way.
Fair point, and I didn’t mean to be so dimissive. DJ sets just aren’t my cup’o'tea, but I try not to judge. I mean, not many of friends listen to the same bands that I listen to (fortunately I don’t mind going to shows alone), and while it makes them lesser people, I still accept them for who they are.
But I’ve seen guys like Four-Tet, for example, as openers, and it’s just not personally my thing.
That’s fair, its definitely not everyone’s thing. It’s not entirely my thing either, but I felt the need to stick up for it as someone who produces hip hop music which often gets dismissed as “not using ‘real’ instruments” which always makes me rage.
And I feel you as far as not having friends who listen to the same music. I too end up going to concerts alone often, but I almost prefer it at this point because it lets me do my own thing instead of having to stand in the back and not dance to LCD Soundsystem because my friend doesn’t do that sort of thing ugh.
I’m in the same boat as you guys, but I’m on the fence about going to shows alone. There certainly are a ton of benefits (not dealing with the hassle of inviting people, worrying if said show will sell out, easier to move around) but it’s nice to have other people to talk to between sets. I guess I’m also kind of self-conscious and would rather not be seen by myself. Oh well, I’m only human I suppose.
Part of the reason I still go to music festivals is that all of those rules are out the window. With so many musicians there, to hell with my friends, I see who I want to see. And you don’t have to deal with time between sets, since that doesn’t really exist, and there’s usually other shit to do around the festival grounds.
I tend to prefer going to shows alone now as well. I hated it at first (still won’t go to movies or dinner alone), but I like being on my own schedule. I get there for the opener if I want, or not. I can get there early to get a good spot. The only time it sucks is when there’s not a waitress, because I don’t like to leave my spot if I’m in a good one. It’s easier to do that when you have a friend holding the the spot to return to. I’ve gotten used to entertaining myself for the 20-30 minutes between sets.
And it actually ended up being Thom singing Atoms for Peace songs while Nigel DJ’ed them into life. It was cool! But also very very late in the morning. I hope young Kelly is happy.
OK, that actually sounds pretty cool, since I like that record a lot.
It takes a lot to get me to a concert anymore. I’ve seen enough. There are a few bands I would make exceptions for, but lately I have enjoyed going to see stand up comedy more than concerts. Partly because I would rather laugh than just listen to music, but mostly because you get to sit down. #passmewerthers
I usually make the call based on venue these days. I have about five within walking distance (about 500 feet to a mile and half), and I’m more likely to see bands at those places, especially the really close ones. There’s a few more that I have to drive or cab it to, and while I like being there, I don’t like getting there, so it has to be someone I really want to see. Also, I don’t care for all-ages shows. These kids haven’t learned that you aren’t supposed to get there until halfway through the opener.
What tends to happen is that we buy tickets, like months in advance for some show because it seems like a really great idea at the time, and then when the date finally comes, we are all “WHYYYY did we do this to ourselves? We have to work in the morning
”
If I lived super close to the venues, then I would probably not be as much of a crab ass about it.
I feel the same way sometimes when I buy tix way in advance. Fortunately most of the shows I see are under $15, so if I decide to eat a ticket, it’s not the end of the world. The $15 I lose by not going is balanced by the $20 I don’t spend on drinks.
Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!

Tina is the best. Also, Electric Love was pretty awesome. Bob’s is just killing it this season.
Has anyone here seen Nathan for You on Comedy Central? It’s pretty funny!
I saw the “The Hunk” episode of Nathan for You and OMG! If you are a fan(?) of shows like Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, Daisy of Love, I Love New York of Love, then you will absolutely love how hilarious this episode is! Because of this episode, I will now dive into that show and watch everything, hoping to find another one of these gems!
-said a fake review of a TV show no one likes. (AMIRITE?!) (But I did really like this show and highly recommend AT LEAST that “The Hunk” episode!)
i already really love it! i rarely lol, but that show really makes it happen. i watched the clip of him ‘helping’ the caricaturist guy several times, returns undiminished.
Kelly, you don’t have to act like you are too cool for the Thom Yorke/Nigel Godrich DJ set. This is a friendly place. I wish I went to that show, but it was sold out before I could get tickets (but it happening at 1 AM makes me slightly happier that I didn’t go).
Anyways, I loved Parks and Rec (especially all the guest appearances) but definitely had to fast forward through the Time After Time song because that was too cheesy for me not to barf everywhere if I watched it.
Archer was great, ah no duh, especially the appearance of Trudy Beekman, the Archer version of Lucille 2. And Cheryl/Carol has been especially funny this season. “Duh, they have all kinds of tranquilizers” made me LOL.
I wanted to punch my computer for showing me the Marnie singing Stronger scene, and then punch it again for showing Marnie getting fucked by her ex afterwards. Kelly mentioned this last week I believe, and I wholeheartedly agree, but Marnie’s ex is not a character. He is a vessel to advance the plot. He has no hard and fast characteristics. He could be the leader of Al-Qaeda next episode if the plot needs him to be. But I will say that everything re: Adam BEFORE the rape-y scene was a very good portrayal of people in a relationship because they like the idea of each other more than who each other actually is.
Aww…I really liked the Time After Time scene, but that’s probably because I am often too easily emotionally manipulated by television and movies. But still, Donna busting in and singing with them? Loved it.
I support Donna popping in. There always needs to be more Donna.
Yes! Why is there never enough Donna on that show??
Community was just another documentary film episode and wasn’t really funny.
Linda’s laugh when she said the name of her invention made me smile so hard!
Mona Lisa Saperstein! Oh my gosh, so perfect! And hey, Ben Schwartz and Jenny Slate totally do look like they could be brother and sister! Good casting, Parks & Rec!
That reminds me, I know this is not a comedy (intentionally), but does anyone watch Once Upon a Time? If so, was everyone surprised by JUST HOW MUCH Rose McGowan really did look and sound like a young Barbara Hershey? Kind of eerily so?
Love that show, loved that episode. The show is bananas and super self-aware of how insane it is. The other week when whatsherface asks the guy point blank if he let her sit in jail because Pinocchio told him to had me rewind it three times to see if I heard it correctly.
Also, Jenny Slate is really funny on House of Lies. And on Sunday, Veronica Mars made out with Seth Cohen.
I really liked the whole descriptive funeral thing on The Office. “Your hair was black then grey”
I loved that he threw colored dirt in everybody’s faces. Red for yes, regular for no. The timing of this episode during the week of the Vatican colored-smoke pipes fashion show was perfect.
I miss the old Community. Last night’s episode reminds me of the time I when I was a kid and went an open house. There were tables of snacks, so I went to the table where nobody was congregating. I grabbed a handful of cookies and felt like queen of the world, only to find out that that table was where all the sugar-free, diabetic-friendly snacks were segregated.
But I did like the very end because Chang is Chang is Chang.
Parks & Recreation was good! Mona Lisa is crazy! Who else thinks she’s going to burn down the store while smoking whilst sleeping?
The Office was meh. That failed pilot was weird, because 1) it’s a failed pilot spin-off crammed into a regular episode of The Office and 2) I thought Dwight was trying to get back with Angela (but it’s a failed spin-off so whatever) I always enjoyed the idea of Dwight as an only, creepy, Amish child.
Bob’s Burgers was so great! I have had “They’ll say ‘Aw, Topsy’ at my autopsy” stuck in my head all week. Big fan of the crazy librarian too. Loved him randomly stamping book pages.
I really liked the roast on RuPaul’s Drag Race, even though I am not generally a fan of roasts. So happy Alaska broke away from Ro-laska-tox. And she was on fire! Jinkx was really funny too, and she looked so great on the runway. Roxxy was so mean to Jinkx. Even though I don’t like her mean girl attitude, the double wig trick was great. This week’s lip sync was the best all season!
And any time Jean-Ralphio shows up, I am happy.
How about The Office? Are you sad “The Farm” isn’t getting made? How would the Schrutes know a Decemberists song? Fatal flaw?
I regret googling Topsy to find out if she was real. Unfortunately, I do everything Billy Eichner tells me to do.
Obviously, they aired the cobbled bits of The Farm pilot because you might as well make SOME money from a failed venture.
The timing is too bad because it would have been a funny minor joke for the end of the series that Dwight got his own show called The Farm. It actually would have been pretty believable, like a gothic Honey Boo Boo or something.
This is tangentially related to the post, but I just started watching Veronica Mars last week (I don’t know if I’m ahead of the curve because this was before the whole Kickstarter thing or if I’m so far behind the)curve, that the curve is a dot to me, since you know, the whole world watched it like 10 years ago, but anyways), it is awesome! I don’t know whether anyone else gets excited when the characters we love now pop us in older tv shows and movies. But I was super excited for this one you guys.
Also bonus, Leighton Meester as Gossip Girl! Whaaaa! Mind blown.
Gah, why don’t I edit my work before I click “submit”?
And just for you Kelly:
I know it won’t be popular but Jenny Slate does not seem funny to me at all. Her acting seems bad and I feel like if Gabe wasn’t her friend she would not be mentioned positively.
