The thing about this slow motion video of people riding bicycles around a burning velodome as it threatens to break apart and engulf them is that not only is it the type of grandiose and dangerous brand of Colliseum entertainment that presages an overly indulgent and calcified culture on the brink of total collapse, but to make matters worse, after watching it for a few seconds my initial reaction was an irritated “YEAH YEAH YEAH, WE GET IT, BIG WHOOP, NEXT VIDEO PLEASE!” so basically we are like 4 sure doomed. 1. Gotta say, though I’m loving classic rock day at Videogum, this would make an excellent Xiu Xiu video.

  2. fire bad. no play fire. fire bite. bad.

  3. Et tu, Delahaye?

  4. Kelly, I changed my mind and I’m going to post the motocycle video because I want to use the word “velodrome.” — Gabe.

  5. I love almost all of the things represented in this video – bicycles, velodromes, fire, beer – but these dirty people, their sausage party, and their gratuitous use of slow motion effects can all go to hell (are they already there?).

  6. Two wheels enter! One wheel leaves! (Mad Gabe: Beyond Velodrome)

    More like Broman Empire.

  8. So that’s what’s going on inside the Vatican now that New Pope’s running things.

  9. So, Gabe’s totally loving LA, huh?

  10. Speaking of Rome, YOU GUYS! I am going and it is for sure actually happening! Two months! Tickets are purchased! Accomodations are haggled and bartered and secured! I AM SO EXCITED!

    • Take me with yooooou!

      • This is even better than the original hotspur. I’ll totally sign your petition to repaint The Creation of Adam with facetaco representing all mankind.

    • Amazing! Italy is wonderful. When are you going?

      • Maaaaay! 4 nights in Gaeta, 5 in Rome. Managed to book a 2-bedroom apartment like 200 meters from Piazza di Spagna for less than 100/night. I was smart and got it locked in before people started getting their Pope on.

        • Aw! I’m so jealous. I’ve never spent much time in Rome (unless you count the cargo bay at the airport). Apartments are definitely the way to go, as you can go to the delis and take out places and get really good, cheap food and then have a place to keep it. There was a little deli/butcher shop next to the bar we all went to in Florence and he had the best food I ate while I was in Italy. Seriously, grilled veggies, fried meat and veggie balls, pasta, and we could get a feast for under 10 Euro. Keep your eyes peeled for places like that.

And that’s a great time of year to go, before it gets super hot in late June/July.

          • Oh, I already know the best places to eat in Rome. Most of them aren’t in Rome, because most of what you get inside the city are tourist traps. HOWEVER, the pizzerie are top notch, and I know many quality places to go. Surprisingly, the sandwich vending machine in the train station is not one of those places (sober).

    • Woohoo! I went there in the fall and it was awesome! Here are my unsolicited tips:
      http://football-pub.com/ for beer
http://www.00100pizza.com/ for pizza sandwich things & risotto balls
http://www.galleriaborghese.it/ amazing museaum in the Villa Borghese where we also rented bicycles and almost died in traffic, which was quite an adventure.

      HAVE FUNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  11. It’s so depressing to think about the fact that at least Roman society lasted for like 1000 years before it crumbled away, and here we are, not 300 years old, teetering on the edge! Bummer! HOWEVER, I am super looking forward to the day when a President demands a Senate seat for his horse.

  12. slow motion makes me feel dizzy
