The Associated Press is one of the most respected and widespread news organizations in the world, or something, right? According to Wikipedia, “the Associated Press operates 243 news bureaus, and it serves at least 120 countries.” OK! That is a lot of news bureaus/countries! They might not always be the best writers, but the AP is a great resource for journalists, and they seem to have some kind of take and/or feed on every single story of relevance.

But, um, they also have some kind of take and/or feed on a bunch of terrible stories that no one needs a take or feed on. Can we talk about the AP YouTube raw footage feed and how it’s a fucking horrorcaust? I first noticed this a few weeks ago, but basically, any time there is an absolutely terrifying nightmare situation, the AP gets the security camera footage and posts it online. For no good reason. THERE ARE CHILDREN IN HERE, YOU CREEPS.

I am sorry for reposting all of these AP videos that should not exist in the first place, but to give you an example of what I mean:

Car Hits State Trooper

Violent Robbery

Car Slams Into Store (And People)

This one isn’t actually from the raw feed, it has a broadcaster explaining what is going on, but HOLY SHIT, STOP IT.

Less graphic, but equally unnecessary:

Family Fighting at a Funeral :(

I apologize for what I have done to your eyes, but know that I love your eyes and was only trying to OPEN THEM TO THE REALITY OF THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. Yuck, Associated Press. Even this video of a baby bear looking at his baby reflection hardly begins to make up for what you have done:

Awwsociated Press. Nice effort, but not enough.

Too little too late! UNSUBSCRIBE.

I dunno………I think I forgive Associated Press. SLEEPY FACE!

  2. Why is there a periodic sound of a nuclear reactor melting down in the last video? Video games have trained me to know what that alarm means. Get those tigers out of there!

There you go again, Germany. Trying to make up for things with cute baby animals. Also, not surprised that the murder suicide footage was from Florida.

  4. How long before keyboard cat plays all of these videos out?

  5. I have to admit that I only watched the two baby animul vids, cause I was exposed to Faces of Death once at a high school party 2 or 13 years ago, and I STILL have the occasional nightmare about this type of shit.

    • Those two were a-fuckin-adorable. The other videos just highlight why we could all use a little more God in our daily diets. Have you eaten some God today?

      • “Have I eaten some God today”, OF COURSE I’ve eaten some God today. Don’t be ridiculous.

BTW I’m totally stealing that line next time I get hit on by some creeptard at the bar. “Have you eaten some God today?”

  6. Yes, very FacesofDeathgum.

  7. shouldn't have watched these  |   Posted on May 7th, 2009 +6

At first I smiled and went “Aww” at the baby bear, but then I thought of that bear corpse Sarah Palin had draped over her sofa. And was : ( again.
    Theworldisasadplacegum.

  8. Yeah, I only watched the polar bear one. I randomly came across the one of the woman shooting her kid a couple weeks ago and freaked out a little bit (only from reading the description) and my roommate and I stared at the video for a couple minutes yelling at the screen that we were, by no means, ever going to watch that shit.

    • Oh GIVE ME A BREAK. That is such a lame, toothless, “aha!” argument. Yes, you caught me. Total hypocrisy. The world’s finest hypocrisy!

These videos are available on YouTube from a major news outlet. They don’t even have the pointless age-restriction click-through to prevent children (or at least someone who has never used a computer/the internet) from seeing “mature content.” And they’re posted without commentary. To place them within the context of an argument against them (for a specific readership) is NOT to blindly disseminate them to whomever with no context or commentary. You could have argued that I posted more videos than I needed to, which would have been fair. But to say that there’s no justification for providing evidence of what I’m talking about is just wrong.

Your argument also suggests that to repost a video is the same thing as creating the video in the first place, which isn’t just wrong, although it is definitely wrong, it is also silly.

Next time you feel the need to give me a lesson in ethics make sure that you are don’t.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that he posted them for the same reason that lindsay posts cat videos underneath her descriptions of cat videos: because people might actually want to see what he is talking about without having to go out and look it up for themselves.

        • i don’t know where you were schooled fucko but it’s generally accepted that an argument is strengthened by illustrating your examples and providing references.

  10. That polar bear is a disgusting mouth breather. Bring me a new one, internet. This one’s broke.

Someone needs to score the Violent Robbery to Benny Hill.

    • Done.
It’s funny that you even said that, because i had made this video and was ready to post it even before reading the comments. We’re on the same page, Anonymous.

  12. these weren’t even disturbing at all. i’ve seen more disturbing things as my little brother’s wallpaper.

  13. Man, look at Gabe all trying to protect us. Leave us alone MOM. We can choose what we want to watch. Next thing you know you’ll be wanting to send us to heaven.

(im joking but only clarifying that im joking because nickeane is an idiot)

  14. Holy shit, this car slamming into the store (and people) — was that 30 times? Same shot, same angle, different pace? Bukkake for sickos!

  15. AP blows. Their writing is crap, and this footage is crap. They are crAP!

Working for a local paper, I can sympathize. Our court reporter thinks people need to know all the gruesome details of rape and child abuse. THEY DON’T! These stories are of no benefit to the community and take up space that could be used for political stories. But as our editors are fond of saying, “If it bleeds, it reads.” *sigh*

    • TD  |   Posted on May 8th, 2009 +2

Should probably clarify. Publishing stories of sentencing of assault cases is fine. I wasn’t suggesting omitting those stories entirely.

But take this for example: I have enough space for one story. I can put in (a) a report of a stepfather who’s sexually assaulted his stepdaughter, which provides no information other than the pornograhic details of the accusation or (b) a story that the House is coming close to voting against a law that would benefit Union workers (something that could change with enough public outcry).

More people would read (a) but I feel a civil duty to print (b).

  17. Big ups, neoteny. Motherhood, not so much.

  18. poor trope  |   Posted on May 8th, 2009 +6

I just think it says something that all the visuals of these super violent videos (save the gun range) are also edited for language. I’m mean for fucks sake. People being run over by a car= family viewing but a few f-bombs and its save the children time. What has become of us all?

    Ratings, baby, RATINGS!

When Google is stealing your money (and by “stealing your money” I mean “directing ad-consuming readers to all of the people who pay you for your services”) and those bloggers are unfairly not hiring well-paid editors to direct interns to crank out more copy and don’t worry about the difference between “peek” and “peak,” ya gots ta bay the bills.

  20. I love that the baby polar bear is in – wait, NUREMBURG? and the Google ad under the violent robbery was “Depressed? Find out!” and wait what?!? shot her son and herself at a SHOOTING RANGE? When I wrote “love” I meant to say I’m confused as fuck.
