I’ve been trying to resist watching this very viral video of one baby squirrel’s mission to get up a wall and the humans who helped him do it, all week, but my defenses just broke down. And, okay, I get it now, it’s great:
Micro-melodrama! Suspense! Awwwws! I hope that little squirrel knows what those people did for him. (Thanks to Anna for the tip that finally got me to stop being grumpy and watch it.)

I hate you for this.
Those guys sure outsmarted that animal 1/10th their size! Screw that squirrel for not knowing how shitty, mean and creatively inhumane us human beings can be! Laughs all around!
I, too, have to pledge an equal degree of hate for posting that after watching something so nice – if it’s cause you’re using the Kenny Powers persona to pass off animal cruelty in the name of what might pass for hilarity on an HBO show, you’ve clearly lost the plot. Lindsay, can you remove that or am I just being overly sensitive? In which case, I still don’t care – people manipulating animals so other people can post tasteless gifs is why you might be better off catching swine flu – in which case, you might miss that oh so coveted second season of Eastbound….for shame.
I understand the animal cruelty sentiment but I don’t think that gif qualifies. I’ve seen the full video and the squirrel looked liked he was having a fun time. I know if I was a squirrel I’d be lining up to ride that thing all day long. It’s like a roller coaster for little woodland creatures.
I respect your response and I’m glad you stated your case. So I take back the swine flu thing and mention that I am in fact looking forward to more Kenny Powers. Life goes on and perhaps that squirrel is still having fun
I guess you could say I “flew” off the handle. I know.
I respect your response too and you’ll find no bigger animal lover than I. As a matter of fact I like animals more than I like most people.
PS – Do you know about the Sugar Bush squirrel? You gotta check this guy out. Scroll down to see all his outfits….

OMFG, that little guy. Rem his Benazir Bhutto memorial?
Chairlift + Squirrels = My day.
Don’t forget The Knife bonus!
Yeah, I was going to put that into the ‘my day’ equation but it didn’t seem to fit.
better than a lot of feature films i’ve seen lately.
and maybe a great concept for a video game?
Squirrel Force: The Wall.
i love their cute squirrel celebration one baby squirrel makes it
The video made me happy, but the music made me grumpy.
True dat… The video is cute but that Chairlift song is so fucking annoying.
Well… at some point this video went from being about a squirrel and a baby squirrel to about the “producers” music selection. 1.5 minutes of credits? That’s a D in Viral Internet Video 101.
But then again, what do I know? This video is viral. Thankfully, I’m internet-tenured.
Haha, that video has a PRODUCER credit?
It has OVER ONE MINUTE of credits.
The Producer is clearly the most important. He found financing for the picture, hired the squirrels and arranged for the distribution on youtube. Big job.
This deserves a Dewey Award.
It was cute, but the commentary was f-ing obnoxious. The credits were absurd. Just like some UCLA kid with no ideas but a video camera to think “SQUIRRELS! Here’s my big break! Better put my name on this!”
Here’s a good example of squirrel fail. No humans involved (technically).

What is this viral marketing for? Nut sacks?
What is it with the UC campuses and squirrels? Those adorable fuckers were everywhere at Berkeley. They’re like #2 behind pigeons in their ambivalence towards humans.
My most
day was the day I saw one splattered on the sidewalk, the apparent victim of a hit and run, probably by some hippie asshole on a bike.
People helping little squirrel = Cute, People putting stupid narration and music to it = Not Cute
Nice to see a reminder that animals have complex lives. It would be nice if everyone who sees this video remembers that fact the next time they think about eating factory-farmed meat.
That was unreasonably tense and precious.
