Last night Bob Odenkirk made his long-awaited first appearance as sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad, to rave reviews. Having seen only the first episode of Breaking Bad, I don’t know what’s going on with the show, but this clip from last night alone does seem to be a predictor of a looming Bob Odenkirk cultural takeover. Nobody plays an asshole better than Mr. Robert Odenkirk:

“What, do I look like your high school girlfriend ‘five fingers, no waiting’?” This sounds either Odenkirk-written, or partially improvised. Bob Odenkirk has always been due for household name status, so the only thing surprising here is the fact that “fivefingersnowaiting.com” is still available. Get it together, comedy nerds. This was the best fucking episode yet! I seriously bust a gut at Bob’s lines. Dear God, make him a regular please.
He’s probably going to be a reoccurring character for at least a few more episodes, if not the rest of the season (which might just be a few more episodes.)
Catch the whole episode in replays on AMC this week – he really adds a comedic balance to an otherwise dark and heavy show.

I wouldn’t say the show was realistic, as i would say it’s vying for realism. But yeah, totally. Bob kind of weirded that one up. Ditto DJ, by mere presence alone.

the haircut alone saved the day. i think this casting returns some of the show’s early levity, which it sorely needs. and … he’s really damned believable! go b.o.!
Been a fan of this show since the start, and I don’t think Bob took away from it at all. We just haven’t seen the depth of his character yet and the wise-cracking attorney is definitely his public persona and not his down-to-risky-business side. I think as Walt evolves more into Heisenberg people like Saul are gonna be necessary as per my education courtesy of The Wire.
Ok, maybe its lack of sleep or whatever but I don’t get it. Could somebody explain the “five fingers no waiting” reference?

It means his “girlfriend” was his hand, i.e. he didn’t have one.
DJ Qualls and Badger are two of the weirdest but still normal people around.
Everyone who doesn’t watch this show should, it’s one the best on tv.
I wasn’t watching this show, but now that Bob’s on it… I probably still won’t, but I’ll definitely consider it.
@lindsay: well, if you are going back to watch old episodes, Negro Y Azul is right before saul, and as long as it was not spoiled by the previouslies, it should make your jaw drop.
