Apparently it’s hip hop news day on Videogum. Better Twitter it. #letthemknow.

Anyway, Lil Wayne was on The View this morning? Why? I mean, I know he has a new album, but my question remains: why was he on The View? Has his demographic really shifted that much? Was Ellen unavailable? I’m pretty sure you can be a top-selling recording artist in America without having a single The View viewer in your fan-base. Maybe it’s just me, but the ladies of The View, and the people who respect the ladies of The View, don’t seem like the engine of American popular culture. On the other hand, the ladies of The View, and the people who respect the ladies of The View, do seem like the engine of Activa sales. They should interview yogurt. (Huh?)

After the jump, the full interview and performance.

Man, that is the problem with four person interviews. How is a Weezy supposed to get a word in, ladies? And I like that they try and make Lil Wayne out to be some kind of spokesperson for staying in school. Sure. He’s basically a walking Read poster. And enough with the “misunderstood” tatt interpretations. The man is a genius in some respects, but he is ridiculous in most others. Relax, Adjunct Professors of Tattoo Psychology.

Also, cool outfit.

Could mean absoultely anything.

And then there’s this.

God, that song is terrible. But you know what? It’s all worth it for this moment:

Put your JC Penny-sweatered hands in the air, and wave them like you just love visiting New York but you could never live there, and just who is this Mr. Wayne guy anyway?

  1. I think the glasses tempered the audience’s fear of a young black male in their midsts.

  2. lil wayne went on the view so moms will feel okay about their kids listening to his music. a lollipop is just a lollipop!

  3. Whoops, your mom just discovered “Little” Wayne and is going to e-mail you about it.

  4. Lil Wayne can go on the View and be presented as a surprisingly thoughtful man/role model of sorts. And in the same interview say “I love smoking [pot]“. Let’s pop some soma and have some Solidarity Services, we are living in brave new world, people.

    • A gram is better than a damn.

    • Actually, yeah, props to him for gently rebutting the idea that just because he was a casual drug user that he was “dependent” on anything, and then not taking the bait to the follow-up question about being a role model. He didn’t even try to play it like “I’m a role model despite my drug use,” just very forthright “I like weed, and I lead by example.”

  5. does his shirt say “socialism?”

hell, i don’t care if it does or not. i’m getting a shirt like that.

  6. I think the reason he feel misunderstood is because NO ONE UNDERSTANDS A FUCKING WORD HE’S SAYING.

  7. Did the University of Phoenix pay him for the mention?

  8. i thought that was whoopie in the pic

  9. Wait, school was “so important” but yet he “dropped-ed” his first album when he was 12?

Sherri is creaming her panties over him. Creepy/gross.

  10. gabe, the link to that hankie code page is very helpful.
i’m clearly going to need some bigger pockets.

  11. i love you lil wayne

  16. i like how this guy who made the post doesnt know anything about lil wayne and what his songs are about, there not all about weed and gangs, and everything else, hes talking about life, what you can do if your sucessful.

  17. thats all any rapper talks about is “being succesfull” if thats how you wanna put it. all it is, is bragging about what he has what he can do because in real life daddy never hugged him, so now he needs to feel amazing. his only real skill is that he can rhyme any word with any other word, because he says none of them correctly. people like lil wayne waste there powers of influence on their bloated ego, when what we need is congruence….oh look at that, i can rhyme too!!!! throw a beat behind me, im gonna make a few million now!
