This morning Good Morning America gathered adults, teens, and the lady from The Onion News Network (right?) together to talk about the “epidemic” of “sexting” (minors sending illicit photos to each other.) It was “infotainment” at its best. I know this is a real problem for teens, because it’s on the news all day every day, but this segment had all the elements (sex, nudity, death, gossip, humiliation) of an episode of Gossip Girl:

“Are we giving our children too many pieces of technology?” Yep. That’s the unit of technology, the “piece.” Also, it seems like, for the parents who only heard stories of sexting happening to other people’s kids, hearing those stories was the most interesting thing to happen in their lives in a long, long time. (Anyway, moral of the story: don’t give anyone a naked picture of yourself. Duh and done.)

  2. i feel like i missed out on a valuable step of childhood because of this whole thing.
i used comic chat a lot when i was 12. does that count?

I love the mother who’s kids “shared” a very inappropriate picture with her..

  6. Maybe slow, panning shots over underage girls isn’t the best editing technique to arouse (ZING) concern over “sexting.”

  7. I love the girl’s facial expressions when her mother is crying beside her. You can tell she’s thinking “Oh god, my mom’s crying on television, this is so embarrassing!” Uh, hello! You’re already on TV for the topic of “sexting,” how much more embarrassed can you be?

  8. NEW’S FLASH MOM AND DAD’S: You’ve gotta be a fuckin adult and a fuckin parent. Don’t let your kids dick around, stay up on what they’re doing. If you don’t want them sending naked pictures of each other, DON’T GIVE THEM PICTURE MAIL. I know you wanna think your kids are angles, but it’s bullshit. They fuck up. Are job as parents is to make sure we keep them from fuckin up, whether they like it or not. Shit. Get off yoru fatasses and parent. That girl needs to chill too. I get that the ex is a dick, but don’t try to make it sound like it’s all his fault. You were dumb enough to take a naked picture of you to begin with. I dunno what the fuck you cats are calling love nowadays but naked pictures on a 3 by 2 inch screen isn’t it.

jesus fuckin christ we need to get our acts together.

  9. Sexting is the safest form of sex.

  10. If these kids had any brains they’d just crop/blur their face, duh. Then it’s okay! Although sexting keeps disrupting my JO schedule.

Wow, I hope this EPIDEMIC turns out better than the bird flu EPIDEMIC we had a while back. You know, with all those thousands of people dying all over the place.

  12. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH EPIDEMIC
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!1111111111!111!

  13. Was i the only one suspicious that the only “remedy” for “sexting” is Google? I mean, i google as much as the next person, but don’t you think it’s odd that they are the only ones providing solutions?

    20% = EPIDEMIC people. knowledge.

  15. This reminds me of the colored-sex-bracelet fiasco that supposedly went on when I was in middle school, that NOBODY at my school did, but that every news outlet was freaking out about.

Are we giving parents too many pieces of technology to spy on their kids?

“sexting victim”, because that’s a real thing now? also, google desktop helps fighting sexting? WHAT?

  21. Sex ed class + media literacy class = solved

  22. so this is basically telling parents to seek out underage porn?

  23. …even masturbation.
