Last night, Nightline did a segment on the romance novel publisher Harlequin’s 60th Anniversary, and just for fun, they got famous people to read aloud from various romance novels on camera. Here’s just the famous people parts, and as usual, Paul Rudd was the funniest (image looks weird, but video’s fine):

You can watch the entire segment, about Harlequin’s history and how they’re Canadian and how the recession is only making their audience more hungry for bodice-rippers, here, but since this entire “news” report seems like an excuse to show celebrities reading from dirty lady books, I’m not sure why anyone would want to. [Oh, and insert old lady who loves Paul Rudd and romance novels and owns more than two cats joke here.]

I felt awkward just watching this.

  2. How did Rudd resist the urge to ad lib “damn near killed ‘im”?

  3. George Will + Romance Novel = Win

Too much unconditional Rudd love once again.

  4. Everyone was so boring compared to Paul Rudd…

And Lindsay, you know how you think that Paul Rudd speaks to you from mac commercials he probably didn’t do a voice-over for, from billboards, and on our favorite morning children’s programs… and he seems to be popping up everywhere in your life?? … well it’s TRUE!

It’s been happening to me, too…and facebook is in on it! just this morning, I got this “random” sponsored ad in my sidebar:

They know my weakness and they’re baiting me….pretty sneaky faceflix, pretty sneaky.

  5. George Will + Romance Novel = Win

  6. Paul Rudd could be reading the phone book or an employee safety manual and he would still be 100% PURE SEX.

  7. Paul Rudd is amazing at everything. He’s going to make a good husband…for me.

    • You are so on point its amazing.

There is something perverse with our women when they read vampire romance novels. I feel that Werewolves are at least more wholesome and less douchey.

Paul Rudd was awesome, but Martin Bashir (forgot his name but Jeb reminded me) was just perfect, because he sounded EXACTLY like he does on air. He was so serious. It could have been a legit news story!

  12. Let. Us. Fuck.

Nightline has certainly gone gurgling down the intellectual toilet since Ted Koppel departed. Come to think of it, George Will has also slowly swirled down the aforementioned toilet since he stopped concentrating on serious writing and became a TV talking head (oops, excuse me, “commentator”). To paraphrase Thomas Pynchon,

Down the toilet, look at me
What a silly thing to do
    At least I’m on ABC-TV,
    Just like George Stephanopolooooooo…

  18. HA! This is like Mills & Boon over here…I once wrote my own Mills & Boon for my A levels, and got full marks!
