We’ve come to our final 2012 Gummy Awards category: Favorite Viral Videos. It seems like just yesterday we were getting the celebration going with Favorite TV shows, and it literally was just yesterday when we revealed the winners for Favorite Movies, but now we’ve reached the beautiful end and possibly the most exciting category of all. The sparkling wine is very nearly flat, all the balloons are slowly falling to the floor, and almost everyone is looking at their phones waiting for the Viral Videos winners to be announced so they can give their kisses goodbye and go wait in the car while their partner grabs their coat from the “coatroom” upstairs. And we’re almost there! BRING ON THE LIST! BRING ON THE LIST! This list is an easy and rewarding one, compared with both the TV and Movie lists, because every single viral video on this list is going to be a good viral video that we can all enjoy. No arguing about plot holes or about character development or if the food was realistic looking enough or whatever people argue about with TV and movies. Just a straight of good list of dumb stuff that everybody can enjoy. Is the number one video your favorite viral video of 2012? Maybe not. But can you agree that it is certainly one of the best? YES. And if you can’t, you can get outta town, you old stick in the mud. Let’s get to the winners!

Ah, “Drunk Man Sings “Kiss From A Rose” To His Cat” earns a well-deserved spot at the top, while my personal nightmare favorite “My Video For Briona” comes in closer to the end. No matter what spot these precious diamonds were placed in the Gummy crown, one thing for sure is that they — Jurassic Park Theme Song (Melodica Cover), Krispy Kreme, the whole gang — will never be forgotten. Great job, viral videos. Great job, 2012 Gummy Awards. We’ll see you next year!

I just happened to watch it bcuz I normally hate T.0 BUT he was on and he was adorable and shy. Speaking of realistic looking food, what the hell is up with all the Tim Hortons cups in Homeland? They’re not in DC, I already asked a friend…are there Tim Hortons in North Carolina where they film? That breaks the fourth wall WAY MORE than (spoiler alert) Carrie suddenly having a fake passport and thousands in cash in a storage locker somewhere even though it seems really off for her character, who is def crazy but heretofore not particularly paranoid.
I actually thought that was sort of realistic. If I did her job, I’d have a secret identity and a shit ton of cash easily accessed.

There are no Tim Hortons in North Carolina. It is very sad fact. We are mainly a Krispy Kreme state since they were started here.

Since I took a pretty long break from Videogum for most of this year, a lot of these are new to me. So I’m just going to go back in time and claim “Ain’t Gonna Pee Pee My Bed Tonight” as my favorite of 2012 because it’s still my standard of youtube videos that make me lose it with laughter, even if it was like 2 years ago that it came out.
It’s the only video my father (who can barely work a computer) has gone out of his way to show me. That alone is a testament to it’s magic.
I feel the same way about Man Whistling “Georgia on My Mind.”

I’d forgotten about “Drunk Man Sings Kiss from A Rose” and how I had watched it 1,000 times in a single afternoon. I’m pleased with these results.
Also, is “Lennon” now the older daughter on Nashville? She is! They are both the daughters on Nashville! What amazing things a year can hold in store for a person!!!

It’s a testament to how many videos go “viral” these days that I spend quite a bit of time at Videogum, though I can only recall one and a half of the top ten videos (I’ve seen KK, but probably not that one). I would have had to vote for Mr. Wizard by default.

There are a couple of goats that live down my street. When it isn’t horrible outside, I’m going to ask if I can befriend them and see if they’re fun or at least filmable. My dog is obsessed with them and stands next to their goat pen and cries. Of course he also has a friend that is a chicken and stands next to her pen and cries. And when we visit my parents (fingers crossed), he will visit their cow neighbor who comes up to the fence to say hi to him and they hang out for a little while… and then he will cry.
My dog loves interspecies friends almost as much as I do.
Yea, not sure what the Academy has against animal vids. There were some great ones this year.

That’s the other one I actually remember, and totally expected to see. I think it must have been backlash from those babies totally selling out and allowing themselves to appear in that commercial. But hey, gotta cash in. We can’t all be babies for ever, at least physically.

Exactly! And how many votes did the Olson Twins get in the Gummy’s this year? See? At some point, twin babies need to make a decision about what’s more important: gobs and gobs of money, or critical accolades and Videogum adoration. (hint: It’s the money).

Also here’s a throwback, I was at a graduation this weekend and they introduced the next speaker and he was named Robert Downer and I laughed but no one else did. Remember Robert Downer? Anyway, I had never seen Briona video so thanks for haunting my dreams!
I hope you screamed out “More Like Robert Downer Junior?” as loud as you could and I hope that someone else started yelling it out at nearly the same time but slightly later, and I hope you said “More like Robert Darko junior and then you both pointed at each other and just knew, and then later you covered each other in sand and requested more, while both pooping. “Cool Videogum fanfic.”
