NBC has hired Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes to create a late-nineteenth-century New York City drama for the network, currently titled The Gilded Age. Hard to say at this point whether or not Betty White will be included as the spunky grandmother, plz stay tuned for casting updates.

This sounds like it could be fun and Edith Whartony. On the other hand, do we really need ANOTHER show where the casting directors can say, “White people only! What? That’s what it was like back then.”
I don’t know, with it being set in New York City instead of rural Yorkshire, I’d say there’s a much better chance for there to be minorities involved. There was a pretty huge influx of immigrants during that time period; Ellis Island and all that.
white immigrants.
They make WHITE immigrants?!
At least they’ll have an excuse, certain “hip” shows *cough* HIMYM *cough* are set in modern day New York and have no non-white cast members. Kind of sad when The Big Bang Theory has more diversity than your show.
I don’t think anything Edith Whartony could be fun.
All I know about that era is unrestrained capitalism and TB. So this should be interesting.
the press release starts with the phrase “Because the Playboy Club worked so well…”
I can definitely see Betty White as Mark Twain. BUT THEN WHO WILL PLAY THE TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILROAD?
Is this where we get to log in to make jokes about how awful the Irish are?
Is the gilded age in New York quintessentially British too?
