I can’t even pretend that I’m not totally impressed by this dorky bunch of super nerds. How do they know how to walk in those video game lines so perfectly?! How in the world did someone teach all of those people to do all of together? Plus they gotta play a medley of songs while they do it? (It’s possible that I would be very impressed with any marching band, to be honest.) HEY DORKS! HOW DO YOU DO THIS THING SO GOOD? The way u do this so good is to much 4 my brian when it’s so erly, plz take it down 2 levels. (PS: No Galaga?) (Via HuffingtonPost.)

Oh my gosh, this is the most amazing thing!
I went to Michigan and lived in Ann Arbor for most of my life, so naturally I think this is terrible. That being said, for being terrible, that was pretty amazing.
Those dancing prisoners in the Philippines just got served
“What happened outside? At a FOOTBALL GAME?!?” – nerds
There’s no way any of us could see this coming. I mean, marching band members liking nerd culture? Who would have thought?!
Whatever happened to marching bands just performing bad renditions of Tusk and the theme to Star Wars to scattered applause?
nifty
Sorry, Mario. Your touchdown is in another stadium.
I’m pretty sure holding instruments and wearing band uniforms was enough to expose them as nerds long before the half-time show.
-Aura etc., former band nerd (but jazz band was actually pretty cool).
Yeah, I think this is proof that no halftime show is going to be nifty enough to make me miss marching band.
Oh man, are they even aware that there are jocks in the next room?!
I spent the first 30 seconds of this tilting my head up, trying to get the whole field in view. Who’s the nerd now!
Real questions – Do they have to do a new one of these for every home game? How do they do that? How long do they have to train? How do you play an instrument? How do you walk?
Usually, yes – you do a new one for each game. You learn the basics for all of them at band camp, which is a real thing. It’s basically all day every day for a week before the season starts. Then during football season you practice way too early in the morning several days a week leading up to each game to perfect each week’s show. The marching and the music are practiced separately at first, then once you have both memorized, they kind of just work together automatically. It’s all about counting numbers in relation to the musical phrases, step size, and turning in exactly the right direction. The hardest part is maintaining your posture and holding up an instrument exactly right for that long, while also walking smoothly enough to not bounce around while you are playing. Fun fact: band uniforms are probably the least comfortable thing you could possibly ever wear.

The Cal Band did something very similar in 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2UaVcZPsYU. Usually the Cal Band uses the Ohio State Band for “inspiration,” but this time it was the other way around!
THE CAL BAND CAN SUCK IT!!
(although the Stanford band is pretty cool – those guys are super high all the time and nuts)
