The bad news is this weekend’s SNL with host Tracy Morgan wasn’t as funny as it could be. The intro segment, where Tracy goes “back” to 30 Rock, was completely unfunny, despite a cameo by Tina Fey. In fact, Tracy was kind of terrible for most of the show, in sketches that seemed to be based solely on Tracy yelling stupid things (on The View, on a safari show, etc). I enjoy watching Tracy Morgan yell stupid things as much as the next person, but context is important. The good news, however, is that this episode was the first in a while to have five truly funny moments.
5. Barbie goes on Weekend Update:
4. John Malkovich goes on Weekend Update:
3. Bill Hader expands his Keith Morrison impression. If you don’t watch Dateline, you should know that this impression is 100% exactly spot-on:
2. Scared Straight: Sideways:
1. Rocket Dog!
Also on this episode: the “Chewable Pampers” and “Butt Strips” commercials AGAIN? This is at least the third time for the former. Funny commercial, but I think everyone in America who would like it has seen it by now.

That Rocket Dog sketch was the best thing to happen in my life. Also, can we just retire the Scared Straight sketch already? Jesus, we get it. He references movies. And where in God’s name was the game show dancing sketch? Kristen Wig’s dance was worth a post by itself.
Kristen Wiig’s dancing pretty much had me in tears.
Though the skit wasn’t funny, I need an mp3 of the theme song for “Astronaut Jones.” That shit would be on loop constantly.
Also, Hader appears to be the new Darrell Hammond for offbeat impersonations. His Keith Morrison is great, and the Malkovich was surprisingly accurate.
After that, though, meh.

Wiig CAN be funny, but I like her more “normal” characters (i.e. host of “Family Flix”), rather than the crazy crap she often does (i.e. Target lady).
30Rock’s Lutz appeared twice (wearing a dog costume in Rocket Dog and as the Numb Nutz guy in the digital short)!!!!!!!
Why is Kristen Wig’s Barbie the same as her Bjork except with coherent sentences and no elbows?
Am I the only one who thought The View sketch was funny?
Have you forgotten what Tracy Morgan on SNL is like? Brian Fellows is a classic sketch! (…) For whatever that word is worth anymore.
Brian Fellows is hilarious, but the sketch this Saturday was 1. too early in the show and 2. not as funny as it should have been. The same thing with Astronaut Jones. It seemed like they were just getting the old Tracy Morgan skits over with to please the people.
My co-workers think there is something wrong with me after nearly peeing myself watching Rocket Dog. Bill Hader is the the best! “Ahh, you like it so you put a ring on it”.
Scared Straight isn’t my favorite sketch, but it broke the unbreakable Hader and is now legendary. Ever since he joined the cast, I’ve been waiting for him to break. He almost did it in Forte’s dancing sketch, but this was his first full break.
During the first Forte dancing sketch with Peyton Manning he lost it pretty hard, with full on eyes closed mouth covered laughter. But you’re correct in your assertion that he is pretty much “unbreakable.”
I don’t understand how anyone can keep a straight face during Will Forte’s Fancy Pants dance
Hader even saved the Suppressex Skit by nailing the tone for that creepy Santa— could’ve been completely dumb, but Hader brought you there….. also worth mentioning: Tracy’s good-bye: “I’d like to thank everyone in the audience who is pregnant”

Bill Hader is easily the best cast member right now. He needs more sketches, pls.
Brian Fellows is always relevant.
Seriously need to see the High IQ skit again.
Kristen Wig has more than proved her funny-status to the max.
Excuse me (everybody), Wiig*
Replace Scared Straight w/ the Big Love parody and/or the IQ game show (Wiig’s dancing!), and you have 20 solid minutes of show.

Her Sevigny impression was cruelly accurate.
Saturday Night What?
I just want to say thank you for posting the Rocket Dog sketch. You may think that the episode as a whole was full of the mehzles, but you canNOT deny the hilarity of dead children.

“I already know I have a melodic voice Bill!” made me lolz. I think this was an amazing impressions episode. Plus Brian Fellows makes me laugh no matter what.
“I wanted a place that was heavy in dogs and light on laws.”
HAHAHA.
Astronaut Jones was definitely a time-filler, as it was a 2-minute sketch that went nowhere.
Rocket Dog and Dateline were amazing. “I guess you could say you had yourself a manwich.”
Have you ever seen an “Astronaut Jones” before? They all go nowhere. It’s Tracy doing the open, theme song, hitting on an alien, closing credits. Going nowhere is half the fun.
My bad. I guess you could say I was 6 when Tracy Morgan was on SNL! Houston, we have a dog!
Rocket Dog is clearly the BEST thing that has been on SNL in years.
Houston, WE HAVE A DOG!
Isn’t Astronaut Jones always a two-minute sketch that goes nowhere?
It did what it was supposed to, which was deliver that awesome theme song into my brain.
I may have just lowered my standards, but I thought it was the best non-Jon Hamm epsiode in a long time. I didn’t like the Scared Straight (though I LOVED when Hader started laughing), but I thought Rocket Dog was the best sketch in almost forever, and I think both of Hader’s impressions prove why he’s the best on the show right now. “Was that supposed to happen?”, and the best line ever “I guess you could say you had yourself a manwhich”.
Did anyone else notice that Keenan was mouthing everyone else’s lines during the scared straight sketch? It was terrible, it wasn’t even subtle, he was saying all the lines with Tracy Morgan. I kept waiting for it to be part of the sketch, but it was just dumb.
Houston, we have a dog!
Ummm Big Love and High IQ. OMG High IQ is the first thing to make me choke on laughter in forever.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Videogum, for saving me the 2.3 (?) hours and wondering if last Sat’s SNL was any good.
OH BARBIE!!! God I’m using that forever. Especially in inappropriate situations like awkward dates and business lunches. Btw I never have either.
Does anyone have link to Hi IQ? I can’t find it on the nbc site…
I thought the SNL Digital Short this week was pretty funny.
“Look at those sons of bitches.”

Yes thank you. So whats Keenan’s problem? Did he think Tracy couldn’t nail the lines? Or did he think they were so funny he should say them too.

That was so annoying. It was as if he’s trying to show the producers of 30 rock that he can replace Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock. But every great 30 Rock fan knows that Tracy Jordan is simply irreplaceable (as beyonce would say)
Houston, we have a dog!
Does anybody know where to find the Rocket Dog scene?
