[Ed. Note: Hey! So let's talk about this! Some people seemed to be DEEPLY bothered by Emily Gordon's "listicle" post yesterday. Guys! We're going to be OK! On the one hand, I totally understand people's aversion to "listicles," on the other hand Emily's post was totally light and fun and this website publishes a dozen non-"listicle" posts a day. You can literally wait 45 minutes and there will be something new for you to complain about. None of this is to denigrate or dismiss the work that Emily put into her post, either. She is one of a number of new freelancers we're excited to introduce to you guys in the coming weeks and we are lucky to have her. As far as the expressed concerns that you are somehow going to lose this thing that you love, or that her post makes Videogum "less special," all I can tell you is that's nonsense and you need to relax. A blog is a blog is a blog. Videogum is a blog. Moreover, Emily's post generated one of the more popular discussion threads of the week, and that alone is worth the price of admission (FREE!). As time goes by, Videogum will change, because that is how things work, and some of the change might be change that you like, and some of the change might not be in the direction that YOU want it to go, but you will always have a home here, even if you hate your new home. Please stick with us and let's see where we end up. Probably jail, definitely the grave. This ought to be fun!]

Hahahahah! I’m a lady so it wasn’t a euphemism in this case, but I am totally on board with turning it into one.
I’ve tried to ignore them for the past little while. You know, treat the ad the same as I would a Capital One Mastercard ad that offers you a fast, easy, and safe credit card for today’s modern times. But maaaaan I just can’t help myself sometimes, and on a few occasions I’ve given them more than a cursory glance. And well, speaking of cursors, then I move mine over the ad, and it turns from an arrow into the pointing hand.
And well things just get a little randy from there.
So I went to the Dark Knight Rises last night and went to bed right after. Didn’t find out about everything until I got to work. I think my three hours of sleep have made me way too emotional about this nightmare situation. Also, I’m in Chicago but 3 of my fb friends have posted about 3 seperate people being injured in the shooting. It’s eerie and awful.
Thanks god my boss brought in his dog today. Happy puppies make the world so much better.

I haven’t been able to read this blog thoroughly as of late due to a recent redistribution of workflow at my job, so I actually never read Emily’s post, although I did peruse the comments. For the record I am all for Emily’s presence on VGum.
But I listen to Emily every week on the Indoor Kids, I’ve read other blog entries of hers (particularly the one she wrote about living with a person with health issues), and I see her in person whenever I attend Meltdown on Wednesdays. She handed me my ‘Remember Wayfarer 515′ ribbon pin at the Meltdown’s Breaking Gifs show.
So yeah, Emily’s kewl.
I wonder how many monsters are at Meltdown any given Wednesday. We should make ourselves known to one another, I go to that shit alone!

I am not in the mood to address what is Gable CLEARLY BEING WRONG because whatever, I rested my case yesterday (wait, no, there’s a little more). I’ll go do something else while I wait for bleep bloops to boop and bleep. Too bad we’ll soon get awesome posts like 15 blogs still worse than ours, 10 reasons to watch TV, or 20 suggestions for summer fun (branded promotional content brought to you by Coppertone). *I* write this kind of garbage (actually it’s the only freelance work available as of late, which is probably why I’m loving my day job) and it’s just lazy and not fun to read. So I hold this blog to a higher standard than the ones I get paid to contribute to… That’s not exactly a bad thing.

Id just like to say that this is one of the reasons that I love videogum. Not only are the most of the commenters more thoughtful than on almost every other website, the community also consists of alot of very smart people educated in a variety of fields. Badideajeans was making a well thought out and cohesive statement regarding her (well informed, it would seem) opinion of blogs. Whether or not you agree, jeans did not bash Emily in a personal fashion, nor was she senesationalist regarding the effect ‘listicles’ can have on the quality of a blog. Her opinion was deriven from professional experience, which is more of a warrant than most on the internet can claim. Being that this is a blog she clearly values as a source of media consumption, I find this to be moreso constructive than purely critical and I find that such an environment is typically encouraged in the comment section of vgum. Its that environment, and the people in it, that has made this one of my favorite websites to visit over the last several years (I dont comment all that often).
Way to go badideajeans, you and the other monsters are whats good about the internet.

So something has been bothering my since Emily’s post, and that is this: I am now thinking of terrible superhero boyfriends (what with Batman being #1) and dudes, there are so many. I know that was not the article, but that door is open in my head, and daaaaaaaang Hank Pym is up there. Mr. Fantastic: Totally on the list. Superman: Can be a dick. There is another guy I am for sure thinking of but I can’t remember his name or his wife’s name. And there is Carol Danver’s enemy/son/boyfriend. Yes, Batman is a terrible, terrible guardian, but maybe as a boyfriend not so bad.
Also the big problem of dating Superman is that he is an alien, and who knows what kind of weird alien diseases he has
Also, Spider-Man post One More Day. Fuck that storyline.
