GameStop, that store I’m vaguely aware of but have never set foot in (because I’m a woman), put out this unintentionally funny (though it’s trying to be actually funny) video to train their employees on how to sell video games to females, who are recognizable by their purses and the fact they never say “dude.” (Dude!). This might be the final nail in the employee training video coffin, because they always get leaked to YouTube:

There’s apparently some confusion as to whether this is real or fake, but I would have to go with 100% real, because who with any understanding of comedy videos would bother making it over 8 minutes long? (Though it has familiarized me with GameStop’s products, so it could be genius viral marketing.) (Thanks for the tip, Sarah!)

  1. Are you aware of our current promotion? It’s called “You are stupid and fat.”

  2. I just showed this to a Game Stop employee. And he said that he’s seen it before.

    Which is creepy

  3. It’s funny that they have this video because whenever I set foot into a GameStop (which is fairly often), I never seem to get any help.

    • Then again, maybe it’d help me if I had a fake British accent and if I kept appearing out of nowhere.

GameStop has probably the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced from a nationwide chain. I’m a 23 year old male and new to video games, and rarely are my ignorant questions given the courtesy of eye contact and a non-monotone.

  4. I like that the host of the video has a denim shirt and an accent as a %5 effort at “remember the Crocodile Hunter?”

I like the frantic manic Andean flute in the background on loop.

How come they filmed it in a bookstore?

  7. The greatest training video story ever told will always be David Sedaris and Macy’s. “There’s no way I’m going to be admitted into law school. Not now. Not after what I’ve done.”

  8. I think a lot of Gamestop’s customers would like to “build a symbiotic relationship” with women, hur hur hur.

  9. “Wow, this one year magazine subscription totally justifies me spending $150 more than i planned to!”

“because who with any understanding of comedy videos would bother making it over 8 minutes long?”

    SNL

Women are so dumb! None of them play video games, so lets talk down to them and get them to buy things by offering girly magazines! Who could turn down the chance to lean how to please your man 101 different ways??

  12. You forgot the FNL cameo during the gift card scene, and my favorite training video is actually pretty informative.

It’s also a self defense training video at 4:10.

I’ve been working for Gamestop for about a year now, and I’m a 19 year old female. This video is real, although I don’t think we showed it to any of our employees, and the Sharpen the Mind, Shape the Body promotion was something that was recently ended. To me this video looks like just a funny way of trying to motivate employees since that’s a pretty difficult task in itself, I don’t think you guys should be taking it so seriously, especially not insulting. During the holidays, we were briefed on how the company is trying to turn more in the direction of moms and such over the small crowd that Gamestop has always attracted, so we’re trying to expand our horizons.

For those of you who have apparently had very negative experiences with employees, I apologize on their behalf and ask that you do please tell corporate any time you walk in and don’t get service. At the bottom of Gamestop receipts we do have a website we ask you to go to for feedback, and you get the chance to win a PS3 and a Wii (and yes, several people even in my area have won in the last year). It really does help because if we’re pressured about anything, it’s treating the customer like royalty and getting the most out of their wallets. ^_~
