Just because America celebrated EVERYTHING this week doesn’t mean the movie trailers are going 2 stop. Get real, dudes. The day we stop having new movie trailers is the day the terrorists whatever. These trailers don’t run. America. Barbecue. Savages in theaters now!
Why Stop Now?
You love Jesse Eisenberg, you love Tracy Morgan, you love mom from The Wrestler and/or last night’s episode of Louie, you love piano recitals, you love Haddie from Parenthood, you love Oxycontin. I could go on and on, WHY STOP NOW lololol.
Jack Reacher
Apparently people who have actually read these books are upset because the character of Jack Reacher’s main quality is that he’s just a gigantic (physically) monster whose mere presence intimidates everyone. I don’t see what the big deal is? I’m sure they put some lifts in Tom Cruises’s shoes and he’s got the power of the Demon Volcano coursing through his divorced veins. He seems plenty scary.
The Loneliest Planet
This looks good.
Compliance
This is clearly one of those movies that you watch and at the end of the movie you are just like, “man, people are really the worst!” Which is great because it’s not as if every day experience in the world reinforces that obvious fact enough. Spend 12 dollars and learn it again for the first time. (This movie does look pretty good. If you love SUMMER BUMMERS.)
The Tall Man
OU SONT LES ENFANTS?! You know in horror movies when the house or the bakery is haunted or terrorized or whatever how for some reason the people keep living in the house and something horrible will happen in the house that is the scariest thing but the next day they are in the breakfast nook being like “Sheesh, I don’t know how much more of this we can take!” Uh, how about NO MORE OF THIS. Every child in town disappears and you’ve got two childs? Time to move to a new town, girl. “But I love how there’s no work here and everyone is sad.” Get out of there! Craigslist!

without watching any of the trailers, i’m just going to go ahead and assume that all of these movies are slated to come out in January.
If you guys haven’t seen Tall Man director Pascal Laugier’s previous film, Martyrs, DON’T. Or do. It’s kinda up to you. Anyways, I grew up on horror and gore and that shit kicked the crap out of me.
Martyrs is highly disturbing but what’s more disturbing is I think I liked it? At least it makes you think. Although none of those thoughts are happy or positive.
Oh, it’s definitely an objectively good film. Though I don’t think it’s on the same level, but it’s like Irreversible. Am I glad I saw it? Definitely. Do I want to put myself through that again. Probably not. We do need films like this because among the questions they raise, one is “Why do I watch films like this?”
Can’t watch the trailers at work, but read the Compliance plot at IMDB. Wasn’t there a Law and Order SVU (with guest creep Robin Williams) based on the same story?
Yup, and that was based on a true story. That shit actually happened. I think I first heard about it on This American Life.
AHHH I saw a report on this YEARS ago, but then I thought that maybe I dreamed it because it seemed too awful to be true. Absolutely horrifying in every way.
It is for sure one of those, “Well, yeah, I could kill a human being” moments.
So, I had to look it up and saw the true story it is based on. Disturbing stuff. Does anyone know what happened to the people involved? Did anyone go to jail?
Sorta… it’s all based around the Millgrim experiments where this man posed as a scientist and hired an actor to sit in a fake electric chair, then had his subjects come in and he saw how far he could push them to torture the man in the chair (who wasn’t actually feeling any pain). The subjects would ask the actor (who they thought was the other subject) a series of questions, and every time the actor got a question wrong they would have to shock him. Millgrim made them up the voltage as the experiment went on. Majority of the people went all the way as to “kill” the man in the electric chair.
As if hearing the real life story that Compliance was based on didn’t already make me lose faith in humanity now there’s a movie about it.
There are a lot of negative things you can say about Tom Cruise, not a convincing action star is like the one that doesn’t work.
Obviously, that is true. But I can tell you that I saw the trailer for Reacher when I saw Spiderman, and the reveal that Tom Cruise was the guy the dude in the hospital was so scared of had more than a few people chuckling (including myself.) I think it was combination of the fact that the divorce news had just broken and the fact that he is hobbit sized.
Is The Tall Man a Phantasm sequel? If so, I am IN!
I know the Tall Man is not supposed to be funny, but ahahahaha. I know the economy is shitty right now, but if you are living in a tiny town that appears to be the kidnapping capitol of the world that is apparently also where BOB lives post Twin Peaks, maybe it is time to move. Also, I love how caviler that cop was about it. “Oh, another missing child? Huh. It happens, I guess. Damn fine coffee, right?”
How am I supposed to know how to feel about ‘the tall man’ when all the positive reviews from film critics are cited in french?
Ahem: “You haven’t been this stunned since the Sixth Sense.” “A sensitive thriller. Complex, intense and moving.” “Where are the children? Find the truth 5 September.”
Although I think it would be great if they were really shitty reviews and everyone who didn’t speak French just assumed they were great. “This movie is certainly no Sixth Sense.” “A very poorly conceived, written and acted thriller. Do not go see it.” “Where are my Tums? This film gave me indigestion on the 5th September.”
Mom from The Wrestler? Mom from The Fighter, bozo!
The Tall Man has the cigarette smoking man from Xfiles????!!!!!!!
Is there going to be an open thread for Louie? I’d really like to read everyone’s thoughts about Louie.
Agreed…..or we could even have a Thursday Night TV hread for the summer. Maybe only Louie and Wilfred, but still plenty to talk about!
I’m the head honcho around here. They had a few valid guesses. I don’t say this because they massaged my feet. That’s either feast or famine. By what means do big shots receive killer Raspberry Ketone Diet Pills goods? A report showed Raspberry Ketone Diet Pills doing this in response to this. Raspberry Ketone Diet Pills won’t take much more effort.
