The big question on everyone’s mind these days is: When will the cast of Friends reunite for something along the lines of an hour-long special, or maybe even a movie, just so we can get a sense of where all the characters are at right now in their careers and family lives, etc.? While both Joey and Rachel refuse to give into popular demand, the rest of the cast has yet to deny the “rumors,” so THERE’S STILL HOPE! Just slightly behind the big Friends question, though, is this question: When will Michael return to The Office??? Now? Is it now? Next season? Like, early next season? Or like…? WHEN? Has it AT LEAST been discussed? From the LA Times:

No, it hasn’t been discussed.

Do you really think that people want to see Michael Scott again? I think the people who say they want to see Michael Scott reappear would be ultimately slightly disappointed. I think you always wish for something that you don’t sincerely want to come true. And I think in a way it’s better to imagine where Michael and Holly are at this point than actually see it.

Looks like we have ourselves a regular JOEY over here. We all just have to hope that eventually there will come a time when all creative TV and movie types realize that we never want to imagine anything for ourselves or accept that anything is over. Give you to us now, Steve Carell! Come back to the office with Holly, both of you dressed up as Santa Claus in the Christmas episode! This is such bullshit! “This world is bullshit!” -Fiona Apple, 1997, talking about how Steve Carell refuses to make a guest appearance on the 100th season of The Office!

  1. why would i wish for something i didn’t want to come true what a wish waste.

  2. The Office ruined Steve Carell for me. I grew to hate his character so much that I could barely even watch him in other things without getting annoyed.

    • Does not compute. If you didn’t have the ability to appreciate the humor of Steve Carell’s character on The Office, you wouldn’t have the ability to appreciate the rest of the humor on The Office either, ie you would never watch it.

So unless you were in traction in the hospital during a The Office marathon and you couldn’t summon a nurse by screaming, I’m calling bullshit.

    • That’s like saying The Rolling Stones ruined Mick Jagger for you.

  3. I think this is just his polite way of declining to return to a show that is circling the drain creatively…

Or you know, he just HATES US and refuses to give us what we want! Booooooo.

  4. Wishing for things I don’t want:

“I wish there were more spiders near me”
“I wish I had an ice cream cone fall on the ground and land scoop-down”
“I wish I had more opportunities to hear Chad Kroeger sing”
“I wish I was a little bit smaller and less of a baller”

  5. Well hopefully he’ll keep making monster hits like Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

    • Not a bad movie, but Carell’s performance felt extremely phoned in. His dramatic performances are increasingly obvious as being one note. It would have been a really good movie if he had been encouraged to be funny throughout the whole thing.

  6. Since I can’t get my response to show up above, I’ll post it down here:

It’s really just that, as the show went on, they included fewer and fewer of the moments that made the character likeable. I kept watching out of some sort of feeling of obligation because i really enjoyed the first ~4 seasons.
