This is obviously incredible.

Nothing hits home about the dangerous realities of child abuse like a reference to a heavy-handed Paul Verhoeven sci-fi action parable about fascism from 12 years ago. It is really generous of Casper Van Dien to turn down all those Starship Troopers endorsement deals and just focus on making a difference.

Look, obviously we all hate child predators, and it’s great that Casper Van Dien is trying to use his celebrity for good, but can’t we hate child predators and respect Casper Van Dien’s intentions AND find this hilarious and ridiculous? Still not sure? What if I told you that Casper Van Dien actually made TWO Starship Troopers-themed anti-child abuse PSAs and that the second one, which involves his disembodied head floating in CGI clouds, was after the jump?

I’m not sure how effective a PSA is that makes me laugh so hard in spite of the statistic that four children die every day from child abuse. That being said, I definitely don’t hate child abuse less, so I guess it’s a draw.

I like to think that the absurdity will distract abusers long enough for the children to run to safety.
Consider the alternative though. Remember those realistic PSAs of domestic violence? *shudder*

  2. “child abusers are in every community, even on the battlefields of distant planets like klendathu where giant monster killer bugs wreak havoc on human invaders.”

I am confused by the first one. He says “You know what to do,” and I clearly don’t.
See, I thought I knew what to do if I suspect child abuse. Call 911. But the giant gun he’s holding and the troops running around behind him are sending me another message. Is this PSA a call to vigilante justice? Should I take up my laser rifle with an angry mob and fly my spaceship to kick some abuser ass? ‘Cause I’m down for that, but my spaceship is in the shop…
