John Updike has died of lung cancer at the age of 76. He was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author who looked deep into the dark heart of our modern malaise. There are plenty of places on the internet to read touching, or at least detailed tributes. We have no such aim. What are books, anyway? You mean menus, right? The book they give you at a restaurant is called a menu. Get it right.

But he is dead now. :( . The least that we can do, literally, is momentarily suspend our fight against fake rap to bring you this incredible homage to the man’s legacy.

Perfect. These guys really nailed it. That video was made in December of 2007, but they already refer to him in the past tense. SPOOKY.

R.I.P. John Updike. You’re up in heaven now, sleeping around on the angels.

actually that video was pretty good. The guys have an ill flow “surfing the net in Illinois …cranking out some Britney and Backstreet Boy”
Also I think there should be an exception to the war on fake rap when you work in an apology that it won’t help you on the EOCT.

This is so much better than Flavor Flav’s tribute to Philip Roth.

  3. jeeeeez. i got to meet him in ’05 at Chicago Public Library Carl Sandburg Literary Awards… he got the Nelson Algren Award – and rightfully so.

He was hilarious and charming and he signed all 6 books I brought with me even though the line was SUPER long. Class act.

  4. So that was more like a summary of the past 50 years in bad rap form? Misleading!
I want to hear a fake rap that actually tells the complete story of the life of John Updike.

  5. wait, what was his name?

  6. Rabbit Remembered?

  7. Which one’s Gabe, again?

  8. I sent it to my Mom, who’s job is actually more or less helping students prepare for an EOCT equivalent and when she called me, six minutes after sending the email, she was still laughing so hard she couldn’t talk to me. She hung up after about 30 seconds, and it’s her birthday. :( Happy birthday, Mom!
