Hellooooooooo, nurses! I’m very happy to be bringing you the news that, starting next week, Videogum will begin The Videogum TV Club — the club in which we will all watch a TV show on Netflix Instant or DVD or whatever together and then talk about it every week. I’M SO EXCITED! “UGH, SO ARE WE!” – You guys. The only thing we have to figure out now is: Which show are we going to watch together?! There are so many good/bad ones! In order to aid in our decision, I’ve put together a poll of ten wonderful options currently available on Netflix Instant. I keep reading about how Netflix’s stocks are down 1000% and they’re being sued for all their DVDs by Blockbuster and everyone has already signed a petition against them or whatever, but I still kind of feel like everyone has Netflix Instant? Correct me if I’m wrong. Just kidding, DON’T! Also: Feel free to suggest other options (preferably on Netflix instant, since 100% of everyone has that already) in the comments, if you don’t see the option you were hoping for in the poll. Guys! I can’t wait. LET’S GET THIS VOTING STAAAARTEEEDDD!
Yay! And remember, please feel free to suggest something else in the comments. <3

There is also Star Trek: TNG for your consideration.
Or FIREFLY!
Or DS9. Or Buffy. Or Dollhouse. Or, Kelly, GILMORE GIRLSSSSSSSS.
buffy! buffy! even though i’ve seen it so so so much!
I’ve seen them all…but I would rewatch Buffy…
That being said, I gotta admit I put Buffy because I actually rewatch it all of the time. So I could be very lazy and still be able to contribute!
GILMORE GIRLS 4 LYFE!
SHERLOCK!
Not enough episodes, I don’t think.
Six movie-length episodes! Doable!
I’ve seen only 3 on my Netflix instant—so there are 3 more episodes!?!?!?! OMG OMG OMG
they aren’t out in the US yet, will be on PBS this spring (which means they will be on PBS’s web player thingie as well)
Todd Margaret is on Netflix instant. Considering what a wierd, somewhat funny, somewhat unpleasant mess it was, it might be fun to talk about!
I kinda loved Todd Margaret… and also felt really uncomfortable around it… but also loved how uncomfortable it made me feel… and then felt uneasy about how much love I have for feeling uncomfortable.
Exactly! And John Hamm!
I loved the first season but the last few episodes of the second season were hella lazy.
The whole second season was sloppy, but I liked the surreal conclusion for its willingness to “go there.” It’s also kind of like David Cross saying, “In case it was unclear what my thesis was, I’ll just go ahead and spell it out in all caps.”
Ah crap, no Being Human (UK Version)? Or Sherlock? Or The League? Or re-runs of Scrubs? Or Dexter? Or old episodes of Sports Night? Or old episodes of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? This is not my kind of list… I’ll vote for Parenthood.
I was with you until Studio 60. That show belongs on the garbage pile.
The one where Matthew Perry is really successful but has so much sadness.
Yeah, the show about comedy where people say “that’s funny” instead of laughing and where a Gilbert and Sullivan spoof is considered to be cutting edge satire
Studio 60 = the unfunny 30 Rock
I am so into Studio 60 that I Bandler Chingo’d you.
I can definitely second The League and Sports Night.
RuPaul’s Drag Race!
YES YES YES x 10000000
YES! PLEEEEEEEASE?!!!!?
No really I think that’s a great idea, I don’t know why I did that.
It is on Logo’s website for free, you don’t even need a Hollywood Video account!
ugh, thank god someone else said it.
YESSSSSSSSS! Creativity, Uniqueness, Nerve & Talent!!
YES YES YES YES YES

Uh, Drag Race would obvi be the best show to cover.
VOTE LUTHER!!!!!!!! or should I say “Loofer”. because that is how Idris Elba pronounces it in his accent.
Luther is an excellent choice, they’ve only got the first season up on Netflix Instant and it’s 6 episodes long and I don’t know if that’s a pro or a con
On top of that I think the second season of Loofah is only 4 episodes. Also, a bit of a let down from season 1.
The 2nd Sherlock is possibly even better than the first season but still only 3.
Downton Abbey is pretty solid if the rankings keep up though. There’s tons of ins and outs and what-have-yous with the huge and brilliant cast.
I’m really enjoying Justified so far as well. Not sure if those are up on Netflix though.
Shadow Line would be pretty great to talk about but they made it pretty effin clear there weren’t gonna be but those 6 episodes.
Does anyone know anything about what happened with Misfits? It felt like there should be a second season but I never found one and it’s been quite a while. . .
Hulu has three seasons of Misfits.
love love love Luther, but is there anything funny to say about it?
I just want to talk about it with y’all monsters
I can’t finish the first season of Luther because the second-to-last episode is soooooo stressful I have to turn it off and go outside. Seriously. I have tried twice.
Twin Peaks anyone?
That’s actually a strong suggestion. The show was amazing, but it also had some faltering issues in Season 2, so there’s plenty to love and mock.
Also, dwarf gifs.
Absolutely. The meat of the series was the whole first season (8 episodes) and then the first 8 episodes of season 2. Basically, the entirety of the Laura Palmer case worked out pretty well, with all of the weird character relationships on full blast. Those first 16 episodes were a high wire act of utter zaniness.
The last half of the series (14 episodes) is such a slow-motion train wreck, it was fascinating and sometimes hard for me to watch. The network-mandated resolution of the Palmer case really knocked the wind out of the show’s sails. Things like Windom Earle coming into play and the Black Lodge revelations were intriguing, but subplots like characters getting amnesia and the Miss Twin Peaks beauty pageant (WHUT) were just so far off the mark. It is almost perfect that the series was canceled with a super-cliffhanger ending that was never resolved, although Fire Walk With Me was supposedly going to resolve some of them (spoiler alert- it didn’t).
Then top it all off with Fire Walk With Me!
Plenty to like. plenty to mock.
Dale Cooper = SO GOOD PIE.GIF!
The last episode is great, though. And, the movie did tell us that Annie is still in the Black Lodge with the good Dale, so there’s a tiny bit of sequelness.
HUSH, Jonee! What are you doing?!
Retroactive spoiler alert? Maybe we should watch the short-lived On The Air. As bizarre as that show was, I find it hilarious.
Twin Peaks would be really fun. It’s been so long that I’m sure I’ve forgotten even a lot of the big stuff. My friend and I watched the pilot, series and movie in sequence on VHS back like 1999 in the space of about 2 weeks. Even watching in a marathon it was difficult and awesome to try and keep track of all the threads. I remember thinking during the pilot, “I should takes notes. . . nah, that’s just a bit TOO nerdy.” By the end I was wishing I did.
Agree 100%, I was disappointed this didn’t make the list. Twin Peaks gets my vote. Oh, and also, my thirty friends who don’t post wanted me to say it gets their votes as well.
Speaking of the list… Greek? Brothers and Sisters? Felicity, Dirty Sexy Money, Vampire Diaries, Skins? Maybe it’s just me, but those sound more like VideoMom/TeenageSister-Gum Tv Club choices…
Vampire Diaries is pretty good. There are definitely a lot of eye-rolling moments, especially in the first season, but there are also a lot of people getting burned and chewed up and staked and having their hearts ripped out all the time. I’m not sure if every episode has someone getting their heart ripped out but it feels like it. Which, in case you need to be told this, is AWESOME.
I decided to give Vampire Diaries a shot late one night, stayed up until six a.m. watching it, and wound up doing basically nothing else for about a week. It’s everything I’d ever want in a vampire story, gory and sexy and not afraid to embrace the silly side of these types of stories, but also able to invoke real emotion when it wants to. Plus I’ve had a crush on Ian Somerhalder since Rules of Attraction, and this is just a perfect role for him, funny and sexy and evil and did I mention SEXY?
In conclusion, Vampire Diaries is the best, let’s all watch it together.
Yes! Twin Peaks!!! I’ve been looking for a reason to re-watch those DVDs collecting dust on my bookcase.
Oh god yes!!!
Hopefully there will be another vote before the final show is chosen.
I want Twin Peaks to be an official nominee.
I loved the first season but the last few episodes of the second season were hella lazy
This was in response to tiredandwired.
the second season of twin peaks wasn’t lazy, per se- the networks cancelled it mid season and lynch tried to smush a lot of stuff he had planned into the last like, six episodes. which made it lumpy. but i think the real point here is that we can all agree that season one of twin peaks is perfect.
twin peaks fun fact: ronald reagan deflowered the actress who played catherine when she was a teenager!
EWW!
Anyone else for NewsRadio?
YESSSSS!!!!!!
newsradio is my valentine!
Can we watch The Wire, or has everyone else here already watched The Wire?
Or maybe Misfits.
I voted for Downton Abbey because, even though I’ve already seen it, the story slowly runs over a bunch of episodes like The Wire and the show rewards you for paying attention. Also, I didn’t get most of the stuff because of their funny accents.
I like Downton Abbey a lot, but I’d be more interested in seeing a show for the first time rather than seeing it again, even if the show has more layers upon a second viewing. But I am but one monster.
any excuse to rewatch the wire without feeling guilty that i’m wasting time rewatching the wire again when i could be watching cougar town or downton abbey.
Veronica Mars!!!
welcome to costco, i love you, i love you!
YES.
Ahhhh yes!!!
a thousand times, yes!
Friends!
Nova!
Gunsmoke!
Lu-ther! Lu-ther!
Terriers!
Second Terriers! Under the radar, but great show.
But can you imagine the mass depression when we finish the season? I don’t know if I’m strong enough to go through that again.
I love you, Terriers, I’m sorry I watched you on dvr instead of live.
greek is really stupid and fun and something kelly would be great at recapping and i accidentally didnt vote for it. greek! i watched every episode but also dont understand why it exists.
I heart Greek. Kelly will love it if she doesn’t already. I voted for it but I may make it Facebook Connect official and vote for it again. Just kidding, I will never use FB connect.
Well do we want to make fun of a show each week? If so, I nominate
Dawson’s Creek
Felicity
Degrassi
If we are interested in watching GOOD shows, I would nominate
Veronica Mars
Deadwood
Six Feet Under
Southland is also an excellent show!
All great ideas!
is six feet under on netflix? Holy crap i need to get on that!
Last I checked, it was not on instant, but the DVDs were available. I have been meaning to watch that show for years.
six feet under! except i don’t know if i’m ready/willing to cry that regularly again?
Vampire Diaries. Please let it be Vampire Diaries!
When I looked at the voting results I was all like, what?!? Vampire Diaries isn’t winning! And then I went to my dark place and started cutting myself, because I watch the Vampire Diaries and that’s what we do.
Just kidding! But that was my impression of the show before I started watching and I was wrong. It’s really pretty good, mostly! V for Vampire Diaries!
I was hedging my bets a bit with this comment because I’m still embarrassed to admit how much I like the Vampire Diaries, but for posterity’s sake I would like it put on the record that I like it a LOT.
I still haven’t watched Sons of Anarchy, much to my best friend’s boyfriends brother’s chagrin.
It is very good, and the fact that it’s still going is nice. I’d put the 2nd season of SOA in my top 5 seasons of a show ever.
No, these are the worst. Let’s watch Peep Show (on netflix) together LIKE A FAMILY!
I think Peep Show is available on Hulu too, like for free and stuff, so you don’t even need Netflix to watch it (hi guys).
And it’s also available for free on 4od for UK monsters! And then all of Videogum can join me in my massive crush on David Mitchell.
Fourthed on Peep Show!
Fifthded!
Yep.
So late to this, but Peep Show is just absolutely the best. 900thed.
I think we’d love Misfits, at least the first 2 seasons. (Total of 13 episodes)
The Brits know how to put on a great show.
In a similar vein (i.e. this show is British), I would like to throw out Shameless (U.K. version natch). It is not just because James McAvoy is in it*!
*yes, I am nominating it just because James McAvoy is in it. Hey, I am only human, and Swinton is not in any tv shows!
Is that any good? I want to watch it for him, but I watched Haywire for Fassbender and holy shit that was BAD. Like not even entertaining bad, but fass-forward to Fassbender and just cut the rest out bad.
All three current seasons are amazing. Season three took a bit of time to get into because of the loss of Nathan, but it was still excellent TV.
OK, this might seem like an odd choice, but I stand by it, Being Eve? http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Being_Eve/70175634?trkid=2361637
It’s a teen dramedy from New Zealand but I swear it’s good. Kind of like the wonder years but without the nostalgia and not as sappy. IDK, I think it’s a good show that most of us haven’t seen and there’s not that many episodes to it and it would be cool to see Kelly recap it and I’m pretty sure no other website would and I’m just going to shut up now.
Hey, wow! Good suggestion. I was a kid in New Zealand when this was a thing. It was great. I didn’t know anyone else in the world had ever heard of it ever. Everyone listen to Chris Trash!
Has everyone except me already seen The West Wing?
i would watch that again. the west wing was like, a psychic blanket that i used to comfort myself in the depths of the bush presidency, so i am like, super attached to that show.
My best friend feels the same, and she has tried to get me to watch it for years!
I haven’t but it’s in my queueueueue!
brilliant!
I don’t watch any of those shows. I do watch Shark Tank and Cougar Town though…
I also watch Jeopardy! We can watch together and I can make smug comments about how as smart as these people are they never get the wagering correct.
Drunk Jeopardy is amazing fun.
I don’t want to watch this as a family, but figured it would be a good place to mention that Key & Peele actually isn’t half bad. Just throwin it out there. Do what you will with it.
I caught one ep and it was pretty funny. promising for sure.
California Dreams
I think I’m ok with any of these choices, actually! Good list, Kelly! Luther and Downton have both been on my list forever. We just recently started watching Twin Peaks but only made it through season one. So I’m excited for something new!
Studio 60.
You guys, in defense of Parenthood and why you should vote for it, it’s really good.
If we do Parenthood, I think a valuable feature of those posts would be to have everyone comment with the exact time in each episode where they first cried.
ok y’all, now that i’ve read everyone’s contributions- first choice for me would be luther, since i havent watched it yet and oddly my father loves it very much and keeps telling me to watch it. and i’ve already seen downton, and while i agree it would be fun to do a recap, for my own personal selfishness i’d like to do something new!
i would take the time here to nominate the best sitcom ever, ROSEANNE, but netflix just took it off of watch instantly and i am heartbroken like whoa.
Roseanne/older sitcoms are a good idea. Part of me really wants to watch Cheers, because I saw the pilot for that recently and thought it was kind of great! But I don’t know, that’s a lot of TV to watch.
If you haven’t watched Cheers in its entirety, you should do so! It was just the best show ever made! Not only is it funny and timeless, but the characters are very well-written and well-acted. They actually laugh at each others’ jokes, which is rare for a sitcom. And once you get a few episodes in, it gets to be a really COMFORTABLE show. I have watched it on more than one occasion when I was feeling depressed or angry or otherwise unhappy, and just wanted to sit down and feel good. As soon as the theme song starts playing, it gets you there. It’s sort of amazing.
I rewatched the Diane years recently and was really surprised at how well that show holds up. Sure, some stuff is dated and 80′s, but they’re just so damn funny. I guess those guys really knew how to make a show.
I think they just pulled Roseanne off instant streaming on Netflix…oh, the irony!
i knowwwwwww i was halfway through season 6!
I didn’t realize that I’m the only person in the world without Netflix
Greek is wonderful. And rather superversive for what it is. I like Greek.
Greek is a fantastic show, and I’m saying this as someone who hates the Greek system and resents college-age people. That show is worth watching over and over.
I meant subversive. Obviously I didn’t major in typing at my fancy liberal arts college.
I know it just ended and won’t be back for months, but consider this an early vote for Videogum to spend some quality ghost time with American Horror Story. It may be the only worthy contender to True Blood for the title of “Most Fun to Hate-Watch.”‘
Burn Notice!
why watch a mulletless macgyver in a fancy suit when you can just watch macgyver?
Royal Pains?
I’d love to talk about Justified! Can we talk about Justified? Or are Gabe’s occasional ravings enough?
Your suggestion is totally JUSTIFIED (get it?).
I love so many of these suggestions! I had a hard time picking something in the poll. Truthfully, I love Skins and have been meaning to rewatch the first three seasons. It sounds like the dumbest show on earth and is in some ways, but it can also be beautiful and funny. The fourth season is the worst though. Let’s never speak of it again.
I wouldn’t mind watching Parenthood, Dirty Sexy Money, Greek, Veronica Mars, or Twin Peaks since I’ve been curious about all of them. I would also go for rewatching Downton Abbey for this feature. I like TV!
I was so delighted to see Skins on here! It really is great and surprisingly clever (the first two seasons? SO GOOD. Cassie! Chris! The old gang!), and even when it gets bad later on, it’s pretty entertaining. So, we should watch that and have fun while also getting mad at the writers for the entirety of season four TOGETHER, LIKE A FAMILY.
That being said, we might as well do Downton Abbey since Gabe is always talking about it anyway. As they say, GOOD GOD! what a crazy show.
But
seasonseries four really needs to be encased in nuclear waste facility and never spoken of again. We should watch the episode of Felicity where they whisper “hey.”
I almost voted for Felicity, but I don’t think I’ll be able to handle it when she cuts her hair.
PARTY DOWN WITH PARTY DOWN
yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes
I was just going to suggest this! I thought I was the only one who hadn’t watched this yet. (watched season one – haven’t seen Season 2)
I watch it all the time but I want to read about what other people say about it.
also, either the first three seasons of the x-files because it is awesome, or the last two seasons of the x-files because it is ridiculous.
No CHiPs?
STREET SHARKS!!!!
lol i’m hilarious.
I’m more than willing to re-watch Luther but not until I finish season one of The Wire, the local Blockbuster’s going out of business sale is the best thing to happen in my town since forever.
Misfits, cause there needs to be more Robert Sheehan gifs.
I think you mean Craig Parkinson’s gifs. But otherwise agree!
I accidentally voted for Skins because for some reason I thought it was that show Misfits. Sorry!
Sopranos anyone?
Adventure Time… just so we can check up on da kidz.
Action.
You guys, I have been sitting on this information for a long time, because I am too embarrassed to recommend to anyone in my life. But then I figured this was as good a time as any to come out as a proud fan of Switched at Birth! No, no, hear me out!
Yes, it is a silly ABC family show with the lamest title, premise and teenage acting you’ve ever imagined, but for realsies, IT IS GOOD. Not totally non-ironically good, but it is worth watching for the depiction of deaf culture alone. And it strikes the perfect balance of watchable and makefunofable that I believe we’re all looking for. That is all.
THE IT CROWD!
I saw it on netflix instant and if you havent seen it you are a bad person.
I second this, four seasons and every episode it worth your time.
plz to be veronica mars or dr who, plz
