It’s being reported this morning that the CW will move forward with a Gossip Girl spin-off show. From E!:
The new venture from GG creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage is not, however, going to be a by-the-book look at Taylor Momsen’s character, Jenny Humphrey, but rather an original story about Lily van der Woodsen’s surely scandalous teen years growing up in the 1980s.
Surely Lily Van Der Woodsen’s teen years were scandalous. Surely. Surely scandalous. Writing!
I feel like Gossip Girl is at the precipice of an enormous crossroads right now, because its increasingly outlandish plotlines and always-tenuous grasp on reality is pushing it further and further into fourth season The O.C. “wait, is Ryan fucking CAGEFIGHTING?” territory. The last thing this show needs is a concurrent alternate set of subplots to get things twisted, not to mention the fact that a show set in 1980s LA is basically a period piece at this point. A period piece with a BAD track record:
Never forget.

Kelly Rutherford threw a laptop at her husband in real life. I want to watch the Kelly Rutherford Cage Fighting Divorce Comedy Hour.
Seriously?
the description on the OC video is “Ryan beats crap out of some guy for revenge” so that’s always great. FOR REVENGE.
Gag me with a spoon
Fuck me gently with a chainsaw
You’ll need a lot of lube with that!
Holy crap, that’s Dennis.
Damn it, it’s set in LA? I was thinking if it was new york it would totally be JUST LIKE The Warriors. But now it seems its going to be just like Monkey Shines.
OMG maybs they’ll film it at pomo!
Just because this show is going to be set in the 80′s doesn’t mean it will fail. The problem with that 80′s show was that it was constantly hitting you over the head with 80′s references, not to mention that the characters were stupid and unlikeable. That’s 70′s show had a good balance of being set in the 70′s, yet not overpowering us with references from that time period. As long as they don’t try to put too much emphasis on the actual time frame, this show should be okay.
Whatever happened to Eddie Shin? That Depressed Mode line was classic.
