Remember CougarLife.com? Your dating site? Where you met your wife/husband? Based on your own personal and extensive experience with the site, you know that it’s the premiere on-line resource for older women who want to date younger men and vice versa. But you probably don’t know the WHOLE story. Well, in this real news interview–that is definitely real and seems very legitimate because wait until you see how real the journalist looks and how much where they are conducting the interview definitely seems like totally normal news that is almost TOO normal it’s so much like a real interview–CougarLife creator Claudia Opdenkelder tells us a little bit about the site’s origins and which demon from hell she hired to do her make up to describe a dating world that we are all a little too familiar with (and so happy to not be a part of anymore, now that we are married, thanks CougarLife!):
She’s not a 40-year-old scouring the bar for younger men in her ’80s gear so she wanted to change that around because a lot of women are tired of older guys with their ego problems and their divorce (tell us about it) and all the good ones are taken anyway so what they really want is a (bad one?) 18-year-old at his sexual peak who doesn’t have any life experience whatsoever baggage to worry about having to pay for everything while he’s busy figuring out his path in life and he is “new to the scene” (yuck, barf, yuck) and so it just works out. It just works out, indeed. I think the best part about CougarLife, besides its name and everything it stands for and also the woman who founded it and the vibe it gives off and its web advertising is just how much self-respect everyone who is a part of it definitely has.

At 0:52-54, you can actually see the reporter think, “Wow, you are so old and I just want to drink Rumpleminz.” It is the same look she would get if you made her attend a science lecture about the mating habits of the trilobite.

This is so close to being a real sentence that a real human being would say, but also very, very far.

At the risk of making this into a thing, because it’s so not a thing at all, but… why is this making people feel uncomfortable? I mean, why use “barf” as a descriptor of an older woman who wants a younger man? The reverse situation has been pretty well accepted forever. I assume it’s because you think the women are basically paying for sex? But you really do seem to come down pretty negatively on everyone who just likes the age dynamic.
I feel weird even typing this because SO WHAT, WHO CARES! but… this video isn’t inherently funny and the post is basically repeating the content of the video…. so I kinda think the tone of this particular post is oddly caustic. Like, women shouldn’t WANT to date young guys in the first place, and expressing that interest is wrong in someway.
How is this eye-rollingly fake “news” segment (possibly filmed in the shipping department of the CougarLife.com warehouse) not “inherently funny”?

I have to agree with you on this one. I thought that cougars were a funny concept when I was eleven and I watched American Pie, but now they seem like fine people. Despite a sometimes scary appearance, they are just responding to their sex drive like every other human being. Right?
I get that the interview is more staged than an auditorium with a big stage and where the seats have been removed and replaced with multiple other stages, but the subject matter (online dating, interage dating, etc) isn’t gross or awful or whatever. Two consenting adults are two consenting adults.
I think there’s a distinction between being a cougar and just dating a younger man. I’m currently dating someone 11 years younger than me, but the thing is, I didn’t set out to date a younger dude at all. It’s just I go to shows every night and don’t want to have children and have a pop culture obsession and ride motorcycle and a myriad of other reasons why it just happens that someone in their early 20s is a good match for me at the moment. I think it’s just about finding someone to match your lifestyle and if they happen to be younger or older, that’s cool, we should all be so lucky to find something that makes us happy but the whole idea of dating someone simply on the premise that they are younger-whether a woman or a man is doing it-is a little stupid. So this woman and her site are a total no thanks in my book and I think that’s what we are mocking here.
Firstly, it’s perfectly acceptable to not like someone because they’re old, so i don’t see what’s wrong with liking someone because they’re young. Secondly, if you met an old dude into bands and shows i doubt you’d be exhilarated for finding someone your own age who shares your interests, because the reality is that they appeal to you for what they signify, which is ultimately youth.

I guess my feeling really stems from being into something and being aware of it. There are dating websites dedicated to various kinks and preferences. I figure they exist to help people find happiness and who are we to denigrate one’s idea of the perfect match?
If the laughter stems from the publicity side of it, I guess that’s fair… Public figures and statements are fair game and yeah this is a fairly cheesy attempt to make a promotional video seem like a news item. I thought it felt like this post was a little more about bashing the concept of women into younger men than bashing this particular video. If my reading is unfair, I apologize!

also i think it’s “barf” because of the name “cougar” itself which is just another word that invalidates and dehumanizes sexually aggressive women. and this woman is complete complacent in this and in no way reappropriating it (thus removing its power).
