Well, that was good! I think a lot of people feel this way, but the level of affection I have for Jimmy Fallon has increased greatly since he stopped being a cast member on Saturday Night Live. Not that he wasn’t good on Saturday Night Live, but I always kind of didn’t like him? I think it was because I didn’t feel like he seemed very genuine and I thought he was a showy jerk, and I was annoyed when I heard he was taking over Late Night. Basically I just remember a vague dislike that I clearly shouldn’t have even gone into because I don’t know how to explain it but oh well, no looking back now! What I’m saying is that Jimmy Fallon, since taking over the Late Night, has become someone who I really like and who seems like a good person, and I was excited for this episode. And it was good! But not great. But still good! The “Sully and Denise” cold open was just the best. “My mother lost her birth certificate in a sex fire.” LOLOL. And the monologue was also great. And there were other good things that we’ll talk about in a minute, but there were also some not good things that kind of slowed the whole operation down, like the “don’t make me sing” lady sketch. OOF! I almost like it because of how much I hate it and how annoying it is, but almost don’t count, as she says. Also: The Tim Tebow sketch. I DON’T KNOW WHO THAT PERSON IS! Also: The Beethoven sketch. That one really wasn’t that bad, I appreciated how weird it was, but also the joke really wasn’t that good and it went on forever. Also: So many good things happened! Let’s talk about them.
The “Sully and Denise” cold open, as I’ve already mentioned, was the best. Hi, Rachel Dratch! Hi, Amy Poehler!
I enjoyed the “Jimmy in the mirror” sketch very much, and the fact that Andy Samberg does a terrible Jimmy Fallon somehow only made me like it more. Jimmy Fallon was even doing a pretty bad Jimmy Fallon here, TBH. Still a very enjoyable sketch and it was nice to see because the premise of this sketch is a premise that I always liked very much. GREAT.
The Today Show sketch wasn’t particularly great, except for how oddly long the section before Jimmy Fallon came out was, AKA the best section. I could watch Kristen Wiig be Kathy Lee for days and days and days and days and days and days.
Buble Duets was good mostly for the Thom Yorke and the heart Justin Bieber dance move, and leastly for MIA. What year is this? 2009? Get outta here with that.
The “One Man Show” sketch was very good. That’s all. NEXT!
Andy Samberg’s Nicolas Cage is perfect and I love it.
Joke off! Featuring all our old pals! Who doesn’t love to see all our old pals back together. Great job. I just wish that while Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz were both there they did a “Rick” sketch together. WHY NOT?! Just because neither of them are the host and there wasn’t any reason for it? That’s not a good reason for why not! RIIIIIIIIIIIIICK!
Oh yeah, speaking of Horatio Sanz, all of our OTHER old pals were back to play “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.” Hooray! Good job, boys! You did it! Remember when Julian Casablancas covered that song? That was weird!
Some other funny things happened, like Kristen Wiig having Emma Watson’s voice in the “War Horse” sketch, but I’m holding back on posting that one just because I feel like I’ve already posted the entire episode. WHERE’S MY WAR HORSE? Also: Michael Bublé sang some wonderful holiday classics. What I think Michael Bublé’s life is reminds me of this piece of short humor by Michael Ian Black. “Ok, ok. I’ll sing one song.” – Michael Bublé, so upset at a party.
THE END! See you in 2012, with host Charles Barkley and musical guest Kelly Clarkson!

Really good ep. The Fred Armisen one-man-show sketch was my favorite.
I was hoping for a final decision on whether or not Chris Kattan was completely drunk!
There was one moment where he was clearly camera mugging (you could see him stick his out-of-frame head into the view of the camera) so I’m gonna go with yes.
It was the holiday special. Why the hell nog?
Yes, “one moment”…with the momen encapsulating every second he was on camera.
And I don’t think it was alcohol induced, but instead a white, fine powder-like substance. Good lord, Kattan.
He stumbled during the bow after the song. That was when I knew. Plus every part before that and after.
I thought he was just startled because he didn’t think people would ever clap for him again after Corky Romano.
Oh, I thought we were going to talk about WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS FACE?!?!?!?! It was weird that he was there but barely used.
You have seen them do that song before, right? That’s what he does. He’s lead keyboard-holder/head-shaker. It’s a very important job.
Solid episode.
When I saw Horatio Sanz, I was holding out for a Jarret’s Room sketch, but alas, we got a new classic Tebow sketch instead, which was well worth it.
The Tebow sketch was my favorite part. Sudeikis makes a great Jesus.
It was great. Not really fair for Kelly to lump it in with the bad because she doesn’t know who the guy is.
This was the first time I’ve seen Horatio Sanz since he left SNL and oh my goodness, he looked good.
I know! More like Horatio Sans.
More like HOTratio Sanz. Dayyyyyyummmm!
Horatio Sans 50 Pounds
You just got French’d!
I thought the Today Show sketch was pretty awful. Kristen Wiig and that other girl do not do very good impressions of Kathie Lee and Hoda. Plus anyone who occasionally watches that show (which I admit, I do), would know that for the past year, Kathie Lee has been constantly bringing up how Hoda is so much in love. So yeah, not very realistic SNL!
But I guess it’s silly to nitpick a sketch about a show that’s awful to begin with, especially when Jimmy Fallon was so great as Regis.
“Don’t make me sing.” –Michael Bublé
Horatio Sanz and Tracy Morgan (Jordan) switched bodies!
The worst part was how there was no Barry Gibbs Talkshow. Damn you for being unavailable, Justin Timberlake.
I guess we’ll just have to think back to how much we enjoyed it all the back in mid-2011.
“all the WAY”
sorry.
Andy Samberg’s Nicolas Cage was the best. “Number one – it exists” makes me giggle every time I think of it.
Also, did Michael Buble seem kind of off or was it just me?
He was more about to cry. You know how emotional all us Canada folk get during the heartwarming holiday season! Happy tears! Taste the happy!
Michael Bublé seems like a decent human, but he makes Harry Connick Jr. look edgy.
I’m disappointed by the lack of upvotes here.
I’m in 100% agreement with Kelly. I never liked Fallon on SNL. Hated seeing him get Late Night. And now he’s the best. Something about that timeslot on NBC…the one slot that hasn’t destroyed itself. He seems like one of the nicest and most genuine people out there, which thus makes him a little more funny because, hey, who wants to laugh at some dickhead? Ricky Gervais knows what I’m talking about.
I think the transition can be encapsulated in the “muss your hair” “no, I don’t do that anymore” exchange in the mirror sketch. It’s like he stopped trying to be awesome and started just being awesome.
I loved this episode and the monologue in particular- but I’m not sure why I loved the monologue so much? Maybe I just needed some fun Christmas spirit in my life? All I know is that it made me want to put on a fair isle sweater and get up and dance like nobody’s business.
Buble earned major points with me when I found out (via Julie Klausner’s podcast) that his holiday album features a version of “Santa Baby”, only he renamed it “Santa Buddy”. It is still pretty flirty.
I could tell that it wasn’t all that funny and went way too long, but I still could not help but love the Beethoven sketch. I laughed the whole time. Don’t know why. Also, the monologue made me very happy. And Jimmy almost getting choked up in the beginning was touching. Awesome episode.
if this episode was “good not great” what does it take to be great? baffling.
Jimmy Fallon is great. He’s really shown a humble side of himself in the past few years, and I gotta say it’s no act. I was on a small high school trip to boston around 3 years ago, and we spotted him walking past us in a mall food court (clam chowdah). A scrawny filipino kid that was with us ran up to him and bear hugged him (tiny filipino cub hug) and yelled out “Yes! I got to second base with Jimmy Fallon!”, and Fallon turned super red but he was extremely nice about being sexually assaulted in front of his girlfriend. Good Times
